Ripening tomatos

I have three plants in a little zip up greenhouse type thingie. The plants have an abundance of fruit but it is staying green. What can I do to encourage a bit of ripening?

Pick them and leave them on a sunny windowsill, or in a paper bag with a banana.

This brings back memories of rows of delicious tomatos on every windowsill at home.

But perhaps bananas are more effective?  Use a whole bunch, and put them under the tomatos.  See https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=59217.0 (and feel free to vote in the poll).

We had tomatoes turn red outdoors last November.

Any ripe fruit will give off ethylene, which is a trigger for the other fruit to ripen. Bananas, apples are good.

Sweet ripe juicy tomatoes. Still warm from the sun.

That's my container gardening for next year sorted then   :)

Not when it's a chilly damp October & you have 3 kilos of green tomatoes, plus a load of ripe ones! It's 3 years since I was in that position, but I had to do it. Turning 'em into chutney was better than chucking 'em in the compost.

+1 for chutney.
Just got round to picking and slicing them up. Will do all the vinegary stuff tomorrow night.
If you leave them outside  for too long,  potato blight will start to establish and you will lose fruit very rapidly.  If you have any brown looking tomatoes just bin them.

Yeah. I've brought in my green tomatoes. A few were starting to brown, like the stalks, & they were disposed of safely. Not many this year, but better than last.
