"Glasto"   :sick:

Anyway...Fat boy Slim was phenomenal

No he wasn't.  He's done nothing new for years.
Sorry.
Anyway, 78 year old Debbie Harrie surprisingly good. None of band will have been born when some of what they are playing was first released.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

OK, I'll retract. I used to enjoy FBS, but was bored by this offering.

Lana Del Rey goes on stage 1/2 hour late and then complains when she can't finish her set because her mic. is cut off at the midnight curfew  ::-)

Check out The Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde looking and going well.  Plus guests Johnny Marr and a 1 number sesh from a Big Drummer.

She sounds incredible for a 71-year-old. And the band are so tight. Such a contrast to Generation Sex and their crap pub rock band shtick.

Also: Rick Astley doing the Smiths was brilliant.

Picked up both of these just now. Chrissy Hynde was sublime - and yet more Dave Grohl!

Frankly, Morrisey ought to be out of a job. Rick Astley really does the Smiths' songs justice. it's great to hear them done by someone who a) can sing b) loves the songs and c) loves the audience.

Perhaps Glasto should be renamed the Rick and Dave show!

Great idea! At least give Rick a residency. He will never let us down.

I have it on good authority that Cat Stevens has the eccentric habit of giving people literal bags of cash for birthdays, etc.

Is it really eccentric? Sounds like the rock star equivalent of a book token.

And happy birthday, by the way 😉

Dave and Rick are a given. Who else, I wonder?

Just been reading about Billy Nomates getting online abuse after the BBC shared a clip of her set on their socials.

FFS.

She’s a great singer with great songs. And even if she weren’t, that doesn’t give anyone the excuse to be an arsehole.

I despair of people.

Quote
She {Billy Nomates} added: "There will be no more shows after this summer. You wouldn’t stay in a workplace that did this to you. Why should I.”

That is (1) Understandable and (2) Very Sad. I like what little of hers I've heard.

Currently watching Working Men’s Club. Foo Fighters Schmoo Fighters. You can keep your old rock duffers, this is where it’s at. Bloody brilliant. Wish I was there.
I know the guy that did the visuals for them, and the band were good too.

The trouble with Elton John is that he's been singing in Vic Reeves' club style for years now.  At least he's not as bad as Paul McCartney, who should have retired 20 years ago.

The visuals were good!

I saw them doing an in-store at Rough Trade last year and they were brilliant then - the Glastonbury set brought back good memories, very similar kind of performance (no visuals on that occasion though). I had tickets to see their full gig at the Kentish Town Forum in December but couldn't go because of the train strike. Gutted.

Festival sets aren't really about musical perfection though.
It is simpler than it looks.

I really enjoyed Elton John’s set. Yes, his voice is far from what it was, but the music is great and the enthusiasm which he and his band (who were awesome) put into it was really infectious. Some great guests (no Dave Grohl! Had he snuck into the band somewhere?), mostly fairly new to the public. I’m not sure of the relevance of Brandon Flowers, but as a Killers fan and him being one of the few rock stars I’ve talked to at length, I wasn’t complaining!

And the crowd was just brilliant.

I was reminded today of this moment, when the Foo Fighters brought Rick on at the O2 back in 2017. So the Rick and Dave show really did happen!
