Audax Events Calendar
« on: 28 August, 2014, 05:26:33 pm »
I'm trying to find an easier way to identify new rides that have been added to the events calendar since I last looked.  Is there a way to get email notifications of new events as they are added to the aukweb calendar (or ammended)?  Is there a change log for the calendar?  Is the events calendar updated at random or at fixed intervals (when)?

Thanks.

Become an organiser then you can view all the future events including projects that do not yet appear in the calendar. ;D

I use changedetection.com on a couple of sites (but not on the AUK calendar!)
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

The sequence is that an organiser creates a new, or duplicates from last year, an event. Once the regional coordinator has checked the route, controls, and risk assessment, and is happy with the event, it is published.

Events can be added at any time during the year.  BRM events have to follow the ACP timetable, so all PBP qualifiers should appear within the month.

C F L P R T S Z NM 100  ???

Where can I find a key that defines all the facilities codes?

I've found the "?" on the event info that gives the text describing the facilities for each ride, but I'm looking for a key for the full list of possible facilities.  I want to apply conditional formatting to the downloaded calendar to highlight rides with facilities that are of particular interest to us.

Thanks.

If there was a RSS feed of the calendar it'd be automatic, alas...

I'm looking for a less laborious method, preferably with automatic notification of new events.  I could possibly write a script to download and compare the csv format calendar at regular intervals, but I don't have time at the moment and the csv format calender download does not seem to be working ("Internal Server Error")  ???

I use changedetection.com on a couple of sites (but not on the AUK calendar!)

That might be useful for tracking changes to individual events that we have entered - e.g. updated routesheet/gpx files.  However as the events webpage is updated to display upcoming events I think that it would give lots of unwanted results based on the changing content of the events web page, rather than just new/amended events as they are entered into the full published calendar.

I'm sure the aukweb admin team has more important things to do, but a change log for the events calendar or change notification emails for new and amended events would be a useful feature.

Filter it to suit your needs and then monitor it.

I suspect if you set a filter on the AUK website to only display RM events, starting Jan 1st for 6 months, then it will cover your needs for PBP qualifiers etc.

http://aukweb.net/events/?From=01%2F01%2F2015&To=6&Days=&Category=BRM&Dist_min=&Dist_max=&Aaa=&Region=

OK - doesn't allow you to filter by facilities, but it's a start.

I might even put change detection on the above link myself!

I've setup a change log for all Audax UK cycling events from Sept 2014 for 12 months (using the url http://www.aukweb.net/events/?From=01%2F09%2F2014&To=12&Days=&Category=&Dist_min=&Dist_max=&Aaa=&Region=)

The change log results can be viewed here...
http://www.changedetection.com/log/net/aukweb/events_log4.html

It will be interesting to see how well it works.

That's been fixed - a simple incorrect URL.

Hi,

I've still not found the answer to this:  Where can I find a key that defines all the facilities codes?

Thanks A.

Many thanks, exactly what I wanted.

This is of particular interest to us:  A(1) free/reasonably priced accommodation, (one night).  Presumably A(2) would be two nights accommodation.  Hopefully all organisers advertise their ride facilities using the codes.

If you download the audax events calendar you can filter for events with particular facilities in Excel by using the following formula and filtering the column...

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("A",N2)),"A","")

...where in this example "A" denotes Accommodation and N2 is the cell containing the facilities code (e.g. A [1] C L P T R M 22/02).
