Peter, I'd guess you mean the route past Tilberthwaite - I've ridden the route past Hodge Close, which is fine on a tourer, but not on a road bike.

Yes, Tilberthwaite's the one.  I've not done it but I might walk it next time I'm up there to see what it's like.
