Poppy has big eyes!

Any idea what we should call this one?
Bianchi, Ruby, Cat2 and Lola are the names we're currently toying with.

Late into this thread. If you are still looking for a name, how about Gnilrad?

Seven looks ready to take over when his time comes to be top cat!

Yes, he does look a bit serious in that pic.  When the time comes he will have quite a bit of sister/niece Girl Power to cope with.

Methinks cats and armadillos shared a common ancestor. ;D

Cat claws and leather sofas?

The Horror, The Horror!

Tell me about it, but ordering my sofa and it arriving, overlapped with acquiring Talisker.  Luckily he hasn't done any (significant) damage yet.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Hazel our cat is not a furniture scratched unlike the cats we have had before. We have had a leather sofa for two years and she hadn't touched it until a couple of weeks ago when Pcolbeck junior startled her when she was half asleep and she attempted to jump from the floor onto the sofa arm, screwed it up and then used her claws to stop herself falling back down. Lovely big scratches and a couple of puncture holes in it now. Oh well its only furniture.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Leather, and suede to some extent, is a really good non-clawable fabric. Our last sofa and armchair which were covered in a velour type fabric were in shreds after our kittens discovered their delights (preferred to their scratch post, of course). We got a new sofa in a sort of heavy duty suedette (horrible term, sorry, but it's not real suede) which they haven't touched because they can't get any purchase on it. Ditto the leather armchair.

The carpets are in a right old state though.  :'( ;D

I think certain materials feel more scratchable to cats, especially anything rough, which they can get a good purchase on.  The scratching posts and boards you can buy have a particularly rough and uncomfortable surface, but the cats love it for cleaning their claws on.

Talisker doesn't particularly scratch the leather sofa, but there are a couple of small groups of holes which are suggestive of him having an unsteady moment, and having to use his ground anchors. ;D

What he really loves is the corner of a cardboard box, there are a few (from the house move, which I've almost finished unpacking... Aham...) which have been shredded by him.
Actually, it is rocket science.

My Nelly didn't touch the leather sofa, she just jump up and snuggle up, not a single claw mark on it.
