When our cat and rabbit faced off like that in the garden, the cat batted the rabbit across the nose, the rabit hopped forward, the cat batted the rabbit again, the rabbit hopped forwards again so the cat woosed out and fled.

I don't own a cat, but I think Part-Time (my chosen name for her on account of her total lack of fidelity) probably owns me.
This is her a short while ago, checking out the comfort factor of my kitchen chairs. Usually, she homes-in on wherever the central heating pipes cross beneath the floorboards.
No loyalty. None whatsoever. I never see her between April and November.
