Looks like a  scorpian fly  (http://www.bugsandweeds.co.uk/insects.html) Panorpa communis

Well done you.

Mrs G found some ace Eye Spy books in the Whitehorse Bookshop in Marlborough yesterday.  Son2 already had a car one ( tick off all the models you see ) but we now have an insect one and a nature one.
We had a lovely walk up on the downs last week and saw some beautiful flowers - Knapweed / Orchids / Devil's something or other - and really wanted to determine what they were there and then - hence these new books will assist but also make it enjoyable for the boys.
