Oaky, let me know which bike you'll be using and I will match it.

Shocking as it may seem - I am going to miss this one - I failed to notice that mrs_o has prior dibs on going out on the 4th Nov.  :-\

I think that's the first one I've missed since the 7th October.  NOSTM ( "Normal Oaky Service") will be resumed on the 11th Nov though.  :D

Incidentally, I have added the Norton at Cold Norton into the 11th Nov slot, since despite OD's best efforts we failed to get barred from there on the recent ad-hoc Friday night visit thereto.

Although I have to be up early on Thursday to go to a wedding, it would be extremely rude of me not to attend the Wheatsheaf on Wed. It's only 2 miles for me  :P

WARNING - UNCHARATESTIC POST ALERT!!!

I have a heavy day on Thursday so I want to be tucked up in bed by midnight!  Therefore, I am wanting a quick blast over to Writtle, no more than a couple of jars followed by a quick blast home.

Hope this doesn't cramp any one's style.

It's about the ride not the beer!

I'm doubtful, as usual, but this time I am not being lazy. I am ill!  :o
Sore throat, I sound like Barry White or South Park Chef, a bit of chesty tightness/soreness, slight headache and nausea. Also producing large quantities of phlegm in earthy colour tones (but you might not want to know that).

Well I wasn't sure whether to come but I think I will now (as long as I don't slow you down too much). I, too, want an earlier night than usual as I can't take those late nights at my age...

I have just spotted Mr O's bail out of this week's ride. So it looks like I will be leading the Witham peleton.

Given that we are meeting chief at St A's at 1900 hrs we could do with leaving my garage door at before the customary 1830. Auntie H if you're parking at my place can you make an earlier start?

Yes I can make an earlier start. You'll need to PM me your address again (you did once but I've lost it).

Can you do a bikehike route for me? I want to see the elevation profile...

If OD's not waiting out back, I suggest switching on your helmet light, turning around on the spot and shouting "look at me - I'm a lighthouse" until he appears.  It's what I had planned to do prior to the Friday night ride, but OD prevented that by being good and ready before I got there.

No need to rush over to St Anne's for 7pm if that is too early, its just the earliest that I can be there for.

Managed a reccy on the Dawes of 2/3 thirds of the off road stuff though I will save the full write until after Wednesday night

Howe Street short cut should be ok, just have to watch out for the pot holes, centre line is 95% clear
Bridalways (sorry AH) were great fun
Lawford Lane to Writtle - didn't make it tonight but have completed it on skinny's before so shouldn't be a problem.

Nothing major width wise on the above

Most of Lawford lane is bypassed by a nice smooth tarmac cycle path. Unless of course you want to off road it!

What time will you lot be at the Wheatsheaf ?

I think we want to off road it   ;D  Should be at The Wheatsheaf about 8pm.  bobb, does your mobile number still end 661?  If so I will try to remember to text you when we leave St Anne's Castle.

Chief - St A's for 7pm shouldn't be a problem.  If you want to PM me your mobile number I will text you when we leave Witham.

Auntie H - what time do you think you'll be here?

"Oaky"!?! - not gone all urban have we?  Will we be seeing you with a baseball cap on back-to-front?  If so, will you still be sporting the Tesco torch bolted to you head?   ;D

OD, I can be at yours whatever time you wish, so let me know when.

I would myself prefer to avoid off-road parts and take lovely tarmac paths where possible.

I'm still hoping for a bikehike route...  ;)

How about 6 to 6:15?  When we say off road, we don't mean extreme off road, just a few bumps and the odd puddle.

I don't know much about bikehike but we're talking flat.

You'll be fine!!!  Trust me!!!

Six is fine.

I'm after the bikehike route as it shows me where we're going and the corners etc and if everyone's too plastered to remember the way home I can find it! But it's not that important, just a handy thing to have...

chief's post upthread has a bikeroutetoaster link for the Gt Leighs -> pub route (assuming that route is still the plan).  You should be able to get a .gpx from there I think.

As for the Witham --> Gt Leighs stretch, this might not be too far from OD's intended route although he might be intending to go through Ranks green instead?

Oaky has got my route bang on.  We shall be resisting the temptation to pop into the Square & Compasses for a swift one.  Sorry Vic.

I appear to be going down with a cold so I suggest you all resist the temptation to snog me tomorrow night - and this includes you bobb.

I am taking all the appropriate drugs so I don't think my worsening health will preclude me from taking part.

Hope you don't feel too seedy, O_D.

The long route home (assuming we retrace our steps) is concerning me a little. 18 miles at my tortoise-like speed is over an hour and half... so I would probably still get home at 1am by the time I've driven. Is there a more direct route back from Writtle that isn't (a) the A12, or (b) the railway?

My mapping software has the route home at a gnat's cock over 14 miles.  The A12 is a very, very bad idea.  The boys coming up from Chelmsford would escort you back to Chelmsford rail station.  Your call.

The route there is 19 miles (see bikehike.co.uk - Course Creator)

Do you have a more direct return route then?
