Another local one for us -- we'll be tandeming the 100.

Anybody else?

My mate Dave will be doing the 200km on his Trek hybrid. As far as I know, he's never ridden more than 50 miles in a day, and this will be his first audax. If our tandem arrives in time, we'll probably do the 100km, but it's not looking likely.

Not entered yet, but am likely to be doing this with Adam as his first 200k.

I'm planning on doing the 100 if the knee injury I picked up on the Windmill Ride a few weeks ago has sorted itself out.  :-\

If I make it, I might be bringing my brother along for his first audax experience...

OK, almost entered now. I've just done it online for me, then realised I can't do Adam online (as he's under 18 - I assume this is due to not being able to get a parental signature online) so that'll be in the post tomorrow.

I'm riding and bringing along my partner Nikki. It'll be her first 200, come to think of it it'll also be her first audax.

Isn't this ride on Sat 23rd rather than 24th - or have I missed an update somewhere?

Cheers Dasmoth - see you there - probably very briefly as you fly past like you did on Hereward 300K.

Trust me, it's not a myth!

In fact, I've even visited in when I didn't need to (e.g. the bonus 20k we inserted into the first stage of the Up the Uts 150 this year  :-[)

Is 9 info controls a record?

Bugged Circe to see if there is any chance the tandem will be ready in time.

Just registered for the 100k online -- will be my first Audax.

Any idea how to get a hold of the route info?

You should get a routesheet by e-mail.  It'll be sent manually by the organizer, so might take a day or two.

Hope you have a good ride!

I've made myself a bit of a route map in case anyone's interested -- first half of the 100km so far:

...and we're back!  Very nice route, very nice apple pie, and a good turnout (including a colleague who I may have successfully corrupted to the audacious side).

We somehow -- and I'm still not entirely sure how -- managed to rather impressively mangle a section of the tandem's chain.  Fortunately was carrying both a mini chain tool and a spare joining link, so no major difficulties getting back on the road, but thanks to everyone who asked if we were okay .

The 200 was awesome! Not an easy ride - 2,140m climbing over 212 km according to my Garmin. Lowest point 40m and highest 146m. No flat sections throughout the entire ride. Very laney and quite technical. Lots of head- and crosswind. So a real roller-coaster! It seemed some other bike event (Sportif?) was going on. Met gazillions of riders. Young, old, mtn bikes, bling bikes, young, old. Pity they choose to do that event rather than the excellent event put on by Terry and his crew!

The other event had three distances - 25, 50 and 75 miles, which explains the different types of rider out. Can't remember what it was called though - Castle something?

Anyway, just got back home now from doing the 200. And, I'm very pleased to say, Adam got around it, giving him full Randonneur status. We were lantern rouge, but he finished in good spirits and chatting away with over an hour in hand. Not bad going for a 14 year old  The event was excellent, and we were really looked after by the crew there - especially at the end when they made a real fuss of Adam  :)

Having met both his targets for the year (an imperial century and a 200k audax) he now has a choice of two future challenges -
a) his first 150 mile ride
or
b) avoiding going out with his dad on the bikes doing stupidly long rides ever again  :)

A nice day out.

The hospitality at HQ was up to its usual standards and the weather held hop well.

Two early punctures put me (supported by IanOli) at the back of the field who we only saw or the rest of the day leaving controls as we arrived.

There were no really big hills and nothing at all nasty - just lots of gentle lumps which usually were rewarded with a bit of a descent sooner or later - so it never felt like a grind.

And there was plenty to keep you interested - all sorts of pretty villages and rolling farmland.

Worth looking up for next year.

Congratulations to Adam and welcome to the select group of Father/Son 200Kers!  A couple of years and you'll be struggling to keep up with him.

An enjoyable day out and excellent catering. Fo me the only Audax between the 600K and PBP, so the lumpiness was good practise.

The other ride was for Marie Curie and is called the Essex Castles.

Events I am running: 5th September 2021, the unseasonal Wellesden Reliability; HOPEFULLY Early April 2022, 3 Down London - New Forest 300K Audax;

I really had fun on this and would recommend future runs to others.
Very pretty route away from any busy roads.
Met some nice people and plenty of cheap food at HQ.
Thumbs up!

My mate Dave had a great time on the 200 as his first audax. I think he's going to join up here, but you can read his write up on Daily Mile. Sounds like he rode with MattH, unless there was another father son combo.

Hey, just been 'cleared' for the forum, yep that was me with Matt and his son Adam. Really enjoyed the Sat ride... Some awesome people there on the day. Felt so supported, the hospitality was amazing from Terry and his team. Ride was a fair challenge for me as it was a little more 'bumpy' than I am used to (dare not call them hills). The head/side winds were an ongoing challenge, but at least they kept us cool. Learnt a lot from this ride, and the likes of Matt and Tom who were really patient and accommodating helped to smooth things out... I can get lost in my own living room so following the directions on the route sheet was a real personal achievement, especially as I had them stuffed between my cables and upper frame, cos I did not have a clip board in the handle bars :-/

Thanks for that comment about the time Ian, glad just to have finished really, the only pressure for me was making it 'home' before dark as I had forgotten my lights, Doh! At least I have a benchmark now for future rides. That aside, cycling for me will always be a lifestyle choice rather than a sport so-to-speak... So I think I will always be the under-dressed, chunky-hybrid-riding person to come in last ;-)
