Last few months I've been having trouble with both my wrists. Have currently got around 60% grip strength in my left wrist and 40% in my right wrist. It also gives me quite a bit of pain when I jar or twist my right wrist.
When riding a conventional road bike, I'm unable to ride on the hoods, climb when out of the saddle or brake heavily. Riding on the drops is VERY painful. After a couple of hours riding, wrists start to ache badly.
Still awaiting confirmation from a specialist , but my G.P. tells me that it's wear-related osteoarthritis.
I own a recumbent trike with disk brakes and under-seat steering. Using the trike puts very little stress on my wrists, but the problem is that the rear derailleur is operated by a twist grip. I just lack the ability to change gear as it's too painful.
Had a think about it, and on a day when the pain wasn't too bad, I bodged a new gear lever.

Edit. Even though I keep trying to put the link in an img. I still can't get the photo to show.
