Microsoft Updates - Win 7

As many will know i am one of those refuseniks who has chosen to remain on 7 rather than try to upgrade to 10.   I have a number of reasons but that is irrelevant now as I'm certainly not going to pay to upgrade.

Anyway, back to my problem:  I have been trying to check for updates but have encountered an error, error code 80244019 or 80070490.   

Does anybody have any idea as to what is going on please?

80244019 - Goggling suggests could simply be a network fail / hiccup, but other more sinister causes (malware) are reported as possibilities.

I think I'd try sorting out 80070490 first (following M$ instructions) as 80244019 may be a follow-on error.
