The Facom spanners arrived. Ooh shiny!
These feel very nice. Interesting open end too.

Plus point they come in a nice tool tidy:

I already replace my standard combination spanners with Stahlwille open box No 7s so its sockets and ratchets next.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Oops I seem to have ordered Facom sockets sets in both 1/4 and 3/8ths drive. Well one of them was on promotion ...

Today's delivery:

Felo stubby. It also takes a standard 1/4 bit holder instead of the reversible screwdriver bit.

PB Swiss bit holder. If you want something that really holds your bit well then this is it. The magnets so strong I had to get some rubber gloves to get enough grip to pull a bit out of it.

And yes I do have a thing for acetate handled tools.

I may have to take pictures of my GPO/BT/BBC Footprint No.1 and No.6 flat terminal drivers, then.  I lost the No.2 some years ago, and the later ones don't have the same handles. :pout:

I also have a set of Xcelite hex drivers with the bit holder that degrades into horrific-smelling butyl compounds, but that's kept well away from the house!

Sanding tip:  Have a look at Mirka Abranet sanding "mesh" discs . . . available in a wide range of grits - last for ages and when they clog just pull off the mesh disc to clear the dust and refit to the Velcro pad.   [I just bought some on ebay - I think it was from Aberdeen?]   Way better than sandpaper for a good finish.

Had a wee go at the scaffold plank with this today. Wish I'd bought one of these years ago. It was a lot quieter and kicked up a lot less dust than I anticipated. That should make repainting all the terribly painted doors (all 6 of them) in the kitchen a little less painful too.

Picked up a light Workmate-style folding workbench in Aldi for 16€.  My pukka Workmate is the original model with thick beech bars and weighs half a metric shitton, so that schlepping it from workshop to house is a pain in the thorax.  This one can live in the house.

As part of the crap tools replacement I replaced my sockets with Facom sets. I wanted Stahlwille as I had heard really good things about them but the cost !!!!! The Facom ones are really nice and sensibly priced especially at the moment when there is a manufacturers offer running on the sets.
But then I was doing some late night eBay browsing as you do when I stumbled upon a 3/8th set that was new and very cheap plus had "or best offer" option. So I stuck in an offer. I only flaming won it for less that 1/3 of list price which is most unusual I never win anything on eBay and only seem to have success with "buy it now" where you cant lose but bargains are harder to get.
And today the postie delivered this:

Everything they say about Stahlwille is true. Just beautifully made. Aircraft quality quick release set and even the extensions and universal joint are locking. Even the plastic case is a nice one.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I'd mentioned in passing to my Young Lady that a spoon carving knife might be nice to have.  For my birthday she got me these:

A set of carving tools. Crook knife, gouge, whittling knife, detail knife, leather strop, stropping compound. All in a presentation box. I am not worthy.

I have this tool set

It has a load of ¼" sockets, and a load of hex drive bits. And a small ratchet driver. It's great, but it came from Aldi or Lidl. Does anyone make similar sort of sets but slightly better quality ? My Google Fu is failing me.

I have this set & it's quite decent, but not exactly light.  Are you after something for on the bike ?  If so Topeak's Ratchet Rocket stuff may do the job. https://www.topeak.com/global/en/products/75-Mini-Tools/1075-RATCHET-ROCKET-LITE-DX

Not for use on the bike, I already have a ratchet rocket for that. Great tool!

No, I lent the tool kit above to a friend. And realised the best option is to make it a gift. And replace my own...
