Not an Audax, but would make a great Audax for sea lovers... and you don't even need many control points, given the shape of the island

Seems a shame to miss a quick climb of Etna while you're at it  ;)

In true Audax spirit, hills will be avoided like the plague...

There used to be a 1000 BRM called Sicilia No Stop.

Probably a very similar route... I can't think one would want to be too far away from the coast in June

The black volcanic sand gets so hot, you need to turn your bike upside down if you are on the beach. Unless you want your tubes / tyres to explode.

Sicilia no stop wad a bit of a mainroad bash. One section was a decent A road fed by an incomplete autoroute. We're I to return to sickly I'd look inland for a quieter route.. Either way it is a stunning place for a ride. Just try not to be out when temperatures are in their 40's. A tad uncomfortable

A note of caution if heading inland - it gets bloody hilly!  We did a tour and planned routes without taking elevation into account - it seemed every small town and village linked by inland roads was perched on the top of a vertiginous mountain, and consequently we often arrived at our pre-booked accommodation well after darkness.

I can also suggest a couple of routes definitely not to try ....  ::-)
