Surely Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.) must’ve run out of b0rked tables for me to bodge back into some semblance of life by now?  Did another one yesterday, or rather unrepaired it and somehow reattached the wonky leg with a piece of dowel, half a gallon of superglue and one of the giant bike-restraining straps that lurk in a Tower Records* bag in the boot of my motor-car.

* this will give some indication of when I last transported a bike in the Fast-Appreciating Future Classic.

My first shot at a Turk's Head woggle.

Nifty.  Last time I saw one of those was when my dad made one for my cowboy hat when was 6 or 7.

My air shot arrived, and with the valve core removed it inflated my new rear tyre, with the satisfying pop of a tubeless seating. Then I got some sealant in (and some on the yard). Another go on the air shot was needed to reseat it. I left that, watered some plants, then disconnected the air. Four bar makes a satisfying whoosh with no valve core! Valve back in, pumped, sloshed it about some and put it on the bike. And now it rubs on the mudguard. I thought my 34s had a bit of a big gap, but evidently not enough for a 38c. Boo. That can wait until tomorrow though - mudguards in the dark will just make me sweary.

Why the re-seat - didn't the tyre stay on the bead/rim when you deflated? (assuming sealant applied through the valve)   All my tubeless activity, my own and when I ran a shop, was "seat once" - squirting seal in the valve body.

As ever it depends, my DT Swiss / Hutchinson Fusion 25's combo was prone to unseating one bead on depressurising after first
seating.

The gate was £15 (for two!).  No rot anywhere but will want rubbing down and staining.

Meanwhile, I haz dismantled (butchered) a palette, adjusted my bandsaw and made a jam cleat.

In the last few days:
- Detanglefied the cable routing on HK’s Brompton, which I messed up the last time.
- Slightly tightened the seatpost clamp on my Brompton to stop the saddle drifting down.
- Removed the LH rear axle on my trike to see what was making the noises towards the end of the MR24. It looks like one or both of the cones isn’t particularly happy. I should pick up replacements this evening and reassemble it on Saturday for Sunday’s BHPC race in Bath.

I've found softwoods surprisingly durable. They'd better be since I'm making our barn door out of spruce.

Saturday, reassembled the LH rear axle on my trike with a new cone. Still some funny noises (quieter, mind) under load but frankly I am getting tired of the whole thing. It feels like chasing my tail at times. Time to sell this trike off and replace it with a modern trike that is nicer to maintain and more fun to ride.

Slapping the acetate around again this morning, got to the end of the checklist item "Stain wood", at least until I have a bunch of cut ends to treat.

Re-purposed a rather primitive shoe rack I made as a temporary measure when we move here 2.5 years ago into a small outdoor log store for fire-bowl wood.  Now loaded with ex-whisky barrel oak off-cuts from a local bloke that makes furniture and tables from the barrels.

So with so much to do today, decided to avoid doing that stuff by figuring out how to take the pump apart to see why the pump didn't hold pressure to inflate tyres.  Figured out how to disassemble the bottom off the pump.  The second used of a 15mm spanner that was modified to be used on the jags temperature head temperature sensor.  Once apart, I discovered the issue.  An O ring had come out of place. Three O rings that seal the bottom screw in bung to the body.  Now the track pump works as it should.  Only took two years.

Now wondering what happened to unseat the O rings.

I changed the timing belt on my daughter's car. Also changed the water pump and idler pulleys as the usual precaution*. While I was there, the auxiliary drive belt, engine oil and filters got changed.

*Autodoc.co.uk does a kit with the water pump, pulleys and belt for £80, so it's not a lot of extra cost or work to do the whole lot.

Cleaned the Faran ahead of rigging it up for the summer tour, including giving the chain a good soak in a tray of diesel. Surprised how much crud came off it, though just dustiness on the frame.

All put back together OK, front fork cages back on, cable crimp end that got lost at the weekend has been replaced, and starting to pull kit together.

Actually the other day, but...finally managed to mount my bike on the wall, using a big wooden batten and some heavy-duty plasterboard fixings to spread the load across the seemingly studless wall (across ~2m rather than the 30cm of the actual bike hanger). It's been up a couple of days now and no signs of falling (in contrast, the last attempt - not mine - fell down within a few hours).

If it's still up at the weekend, I'll get it all painted.
