Sort of potential nominative determinism:  Yesterday I learnt that there is a child at the Gorgeous Grandchildren's nursery with the surname King, first name Arthur.

In years to come when he goes to Big School he'll be King, Arthur. 

While strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government and supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony, I sometimes get the feeling that the current shit show is no better.

I spent the weekend in Alcester, a little Roman (obviously) town in Warwickshire, pronounced like Gloucester not Cirencester. It has an Alcester Unionist Club...

. . . not pronounced as in Gloucester by a lot of Brummies & Yam Yams -  it's   "All Sester"   . . . I dare say they'd called Bicester (as in Bister)  Bi Sester?

I asked a bloke (bike shop owner in fact) in Droitwich, and he said "ulster".

In my limited experience of discussing the place with locals the pronunciation has leaned towards "Alster", which sounds enough like "Ulster" that my mind went to Unionists etc.  "All Seseter" is certainly a thing, though, and if you say "Alchester" they look at you blankly.
