Well, I just stir-fried up a scummy "Fridge Left Overs" feast.
I decided that cous cous would go well, so popped some into a container, put the water on it from the kettle and put the lid on.  A little later I lifted the lid to give it a fluff up with my fork.  -  something didn't look right.  Doh!  I hadn't actually boiled the kettle.  I'd poured cold water on it.  >:(
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

There's a rather fine ragu bolognese simmering away right now. At some point, I'd better get on with cooking up some pasta...

Tonight I believe I will be having beans on toast.

There are advantages to unemployment, one of which is time to cook a (veg) mince sauce slooooowly all afternoon instead of throwing it together in ten minutes after getting back from work.

Last night was shepherds pie, carrots, and spring greens, with a bottle of Poacher's Choice (Cobra Zero for C.)

Tonight was cottage pie, kale and sweetcorn, with a bottle of Golden Glory.

Tomorrow needs to involve the world's biggest swede, which arrived in our veg box a couple of weeks ago.  I keep thinking I'll use it and then leaving it, and I don't want it to go off.

Mmmm, Solomon Gundy.  It's a West Indian smoked herring pâté kind of thing, only with added jerk seasoning and chillies.  You need some thin crackers and very robust beer to go with it.

Short grain brown rice risotto-thing, with green beans, prawns, spring onions and lemons. Went down well with the kids.

I have a bit of an addiction to short grain brown rice atm.

Ham hock with Puy Lentilles that I bought in Puy last year. The hock has been in the Aga with celeriac, carrots ,parsnip and onion since 10am. I shall add potatoes and the lentils for the last 30 min. The only problem is that it does tend to dribble down ones chin.

Mushroom & walnut risotto.

That sounds gorgeous

In my ongoing acts of thriftiness, I used last nights chicken bones and carcass with some carrots and onions with water to create some stock.

In the pure stock and left over shredded chicken I have added some green chili curry paste, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce and some chopped green chillies to turn into a chicken chilli noodle soup.

I had some kind of ready meal involving "steak". It wasn't very good so I bunged the left overs in the garden. It will be interesting to see what eats it, but I suspect the cat will get in there first.....
