Oh FFS!

I just opened my calendar to add the LEL dates to it and realised it clashes with a wedding we've been invited to on Tuesday 1st August. It's only my wife's cousin, so I might be able to negotiate my way out of it, but I won't be very popular...

I know this wedding venue in Edinburgh....

Who gets married on a Tuesday?  Tell 'em you're working.

Where is the wedding?

Whitewell in Lancashire - quite a way off route, unfortunately. If I can't get out of it, I'll at least try to take my bike so I can fit in a ride round the Forest of Bowland while I'm there.

Little Miss Nuncio had the sense not to arrange her wedding during LEL.

Getting there and back will make a couple of good training rides.

The food is EXCELLENT, and yes, there is plenty of it!

More than slightly nerve wracking, couldn't get on website, Mrs Dominic came and sat beside me on her phone and got straight on, so I am in and have just paid too.

Absolutely.
Frankly it beats PBP hands down in that department.

I'm in and paid up but not yet told my better half - nor about new frame and forks come to think of it. Never seems to be a suitable moment to slip it into conversation. Maybe something ambiguous like "Trip up north" scribbled on the kitchen calendar might do the trick?

Ah, now if that's got a reception at The Inn at Whitewell, it's worth a diversion.  :)

I recommend a shared google calendar. Anything I am even contemplating riding goes in, albeit with a question mark.

It is *so* satisfying to be able to say "It's been in the diary for months" - and to do so honestly.

Being one of the hoi polloi, I had to wait (with the rest of the hoi polloi) for the public entries to open. After a hopeless attempt on my 'kitchen computer' at the 1800 GMT sale yesterday, I prepared my two number crunching machines for the 2359 GMT sale (2 am my time), with each computer hooked to a different network. Thankfully, I got lucky and managed to get a place. And thankfully, too, there's way too much snow & ice on the roads, giving me the perfect excuse to sit back and postpone starting to put in the miles until late April.  :P

So me and my partner in crime are in....

I evidently got lucky in making it through the website melee in the 18:00 batch, tried again and failed at midnight but somehow managed to get her a place at 7am this morning.

Shame it was all so messy but there we are.

Evening all, i'm new to this mullarkey but i've had my eye on this challenge for a while now and thought i'd give it a go.

Registered quite painlessly at midnight and am sitting here now wondering what ive let myself in for.

I have a modest history in personal endurance events through (running) ultra marathons as a younger man, but have done some shorter audaxes and now looking forward to the challenge. I'll trawl through the forum before I start asking daft questions and its out on the bike tomorrow to start getting into better shape,.

See you around.

I have only been an AUK member for a year so didn't have the early entry option. I was very disappointed to miss out on the general entry, but somehow escaped the waiting list just as the doors were closing.

I didn't really believe it at first but now I've had access to the Rider Area it must be true!

Serious training begins tomorrow.
