Title: Show us yer shed
Post by: Ham on 18 April, 2020, 02:47:01 pm
Inspired by Colin Furze and the other videos of wonderfully orderly workshops, I thought it would be fun to share my rammed chaos of a shed.

A late grandmother-in-law had a huge shed outside her cottage in Suffolk.  I went exploring and found a big can of DDT and an absolutely massive drum of methylated spirits, probably 40 gallons!

You mean.... you can't tell I had just spent around three hours tidying? I'm hurt.  ;D

'twas the contrast that amused me somewhat. The sheer density of stuff means that pretty much any activity requires a major archaeological dig.

David's is SHINY!

In Surrey, we don't have sheds. We have summer houses.

In Surrey, we don't have sheds. We have summer houses.

That is because Surrey motor-cars have outgrown the garages attached to Surrey dwellings*, meaning said garages can only be used for the storage of Stuffs that would be stored in sheds elsewhere for e.g. bicycles, lawnmowers, crates of brown ale, half a sack of Portland cement ect and, moreover, ect.  I do not know what is in either of the shedoidal structures at Fort Larrington, nor do I want to as there will be spiders in there too.

* Trufax.  One of Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.)'s neighbours has built an enormous detached garage.  You could keep the Goodyear airship in it.  But not a Hyundai 4x4 or a 3-series estate.

It's a state of mind.  Or where you keep your tqt (http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/tqt.htm).

Not a shepherd's hut on wheels?  Or one of those orb things from John Lewis?

We do have a large garage, though it's filled with Ikea furniture, bikes, and gym equipment. There's a second garage which is actually the tunnel under the house to that garage. That's were the car lives. You might just get a modern wank-tank through there, I suppose. I think the previous owners used to park a Land Rover in there. Well, it is Surrey.

There are six entities within the bounds of my Estate that could be termed as 'sheds'.

I fear that they might reproduce if left unchaperoned..

There is no current evidence that the 'shed on wheels' is moving away.

Anyone who was anyone has one

The former Prime Minister has splashed out on a £25,000 shepherd's hut for the back garden of his home in the Cotswolds (https://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/article/david-camerons-shepherds-hut)

Quote
the garden retreat will undoubtedly provide a welcome break from his retirement from politics. Cameron plans to use the shed to write his memoirs, although this may be more difficult than anticipated, given that the family have already been arguing over the novelty hideaway.

Here's my 'potting shed' It 'borrows' a wall of the house and a garden wall, and is used partly for plants and partly for storeage. Grandson's bikes are in there.

The potting shed roof continues over the garden wall, into the front garden and up to the garage. This shed houses mine and grandson's recumbent trikes, Grandson's electric go kart, and a few other bits:  :smug:

If you want a tour of my shed on the allotment, you'll need to get past the booby traps, and these guys who are there to scare unwanted visitors...

Ok I'm game. Here's my back shed - it's behind the clothes line:

Oh, oh that's no good. I know I'll nip upstairs:

Huh, well you can just about see that tail end of the shed in the green circle and I believe there's still some motorcycle left in the red circle. I think the triffids may have won. Annoyingly I've looked elsewhere for my watering can and I think it may be in that shed.

And out the front I have a cupboard behind the bins:

And a brick built shed thing that has the gas meter, lawnmower and the door from the cupboard in the hall that now has the fridge-freezer in it.

ETA: Really, green and red, those are the colours you chose? Nitwit. The green one is on the left and the red one on the right.
