That is a shame.  Any evidence of conflagration?

At least tractor wheel ruts are wide, Landrover wheel ruts were narrower than the width of my pedals so there were a couple of unplanned halts when a pedal dug in to the edge of the rut.

The ruts here defeated me

deviation! That's an appropriate bike!

74" fixed is a mildly inappropriate bike:

A video of the the Mid-Essex Mid-Week Nocturnal Series crew hooning down Pennsylvania Lane near Tiptree (of jam fame) CLICKY.  All on road bikes, mostly on 23 or 25c tyres.

Very impressive. But what we need to know is, was that before or after the pub?

It was the night (18th March) we went to The Compasses at Pattiswick via a circuitous route as usual - 46 mile ride.

Perhaps this is more acceptable?

fboab, enjoying Comedy On-roading on a Mildly Inappropriate Bike (it was rather more appropriate for the unsurfaced sections):

Having so much fun in fact, she failed to document me struggling round Rutland Water on a 73" Fixed gear Pompino wearing 25mm M+ Tyres at 100psi  :hand:.

She did buy us Pizza and Gelato at the massively over-priced Italian Restaurant, later though

Good smile!

I went on a perfectly sensible on-road ride today.

Seems that a 20% YACF presence is adequate to tip the balance in favour of COR however, and the return journey after the refreshment stop got a bit more technical.

Once Kim had been freed from the gate, the first section of off-road was quite civilised:

The next bit unleashed the full comedy value:

So much so that Kim seems to have opted for a unicycle in favour of the recumbent if this photo is anything to go by

Here's the perfectly good tarmac'd surface it turns out we could have used...  ::-)

A bit of this:

And a gaggle of these, just to get our score up some more.

This one really ought to be a "What happens next?" question...

(click to show/hide)

And the one of me with the bike upside-down on my head in an attempt to negotiate the kissing gate is a contender for the "Photos you failed to take today" thread.

(I've no idea where that unicycle came from though.)

A concrete dragon?

To match the concrete cows of MK?

Though by that process they should be soup cows.

A bridleway between Hungerford and Little Bedwyn, cutting off three sides of a square.

It was steeper than it looks. You might note the bike is actually appropriate, would be if it weren't for the luggage (which actually wasn't a problem, it just rattled a lot).

Those old railway wagons were sold to farmers during the Beeching cuts by companies like RB Farquar. I think farmers used them as shepherds' huts, lambing sheds and hen houses. Riders on the Merse and Moors, the Erit Lass, the Saltire and other rides go past one near Leithen Hopes.

Last year I avoided this section of NCN 66 by taking the A166 from Stamford bridge to York. Glad I did, it would have been interesting in last May's rain.

Even the more level sections had their textured parts through the fields. I didn't take a picture of the more teeth-rattling track. Or the deeper puddles.

Another comedy recumbent off roading event. This during this year’s National Tandem Rally, not the official route but a diversion we took after giving up with trying to get the bikes/trikes over the silly Sustrans barriers.

We got through the first gate by simply taking off its hinges.

But all of the subsequent gates had bolted on hinges so we gave up.

I had a gig in the woods. 23 mm tyres, a budget trailer and a '78 Fender P-bass in a floppy case lashed on with bungees. I know how to treat my stuff.

Later I rode the whole thing back through the woods at 2 a.m. after some beers, also pulling a wheeled sports bag containing a cajon.

Sustrans, Inclusive Cycling. For all cyclists on all cycles[1].

[1]Excluding tandems, recumbents, trailers, trikes, tagalongs, panniers, baby seats, non-knobbly tyres and any others we haven't quite thought of yet.

Saturday was the Origami ride, starting and finishing in Rugely. Mostly Bromptons, other than HK's MTB commuter with Big Apples and my Pomp fixed with Voyager Hypers. Only about 20 miles but quite a bit of dirt roads, some of it noticeably steep up and down and the rain doesn't help traction. Some swearing was involved but happily no falls...
