Right sports fans.
That's the routesheets posted for all the entries I've received so far....

A route sheet would be grand. I'd try to catch the first few at the top of the K-UK, some more at the bridge and then possibly on the long run up the Cairnwell with a stupidly long lens. Should be able to nip past while you are all noshing in Braemar.
..d
plus your Press Pass, David!

So you should all get the bumph in the next couple of days. I'll attend to any entries that arrive tomorrow or Saturday on Monday.

And Cameron's in Forfar have been alerted to a big order for their bridies in a couple of weeks.

It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Unfortunately the lure of a Saturday night on a village hall floor with 20 snoring audaxers has proved too hard to resist.

Put me down for staying Saturday night
It didn't look at all like that in the photographs

Eck, I see this event isn't in the yACF calendar. I tried the 'Link to Calendar' option at the bottom of the page but it wouldn't let me do anything. I presume the author of the OP can link?

Received my wee pack today, thanks Eck.

Clearly prepared with care and love.  I'm so looking forward to this - especially since the organisation of the last audax I was on was a bit of a shambles.  :(

I was showing Mrs McB the route on Bikely. She said, "Are you sure that's the route?  That's seriously seriously hilly.  You're just bl**dy daft"   ;D

Me too, it's 11years since I rode a proper audax (logistics and cost of getting to events from here)

Is there a practical DIY route out there?  :)

check points are the problem, Pingu and me did a 300km ride round the island last year, but it would be difficult to prove for an audax. Whilst building up for the snow roads however, I've been thinking more and more of routes for perms. I could always cross the ferry to Ullapool  (as a passenger with a bike) and start from there, Its the cost of taking a car over thats pricey, and for an event like the snow roads it's a 3 night away trip as there isn't a ferry on Sundays

Just reading through the route sheet and I'm dismayed to note that there isn't the instruction "turn left at car" that I was expecting. "L Cortachy Rd still B955" is very clear, but where's the fun in that?

I decided to look at the elevation profile on Bikely  :-\ (don't look if you're of a delicate persuasion):

Oh, aye, Suie Hill. I think I've done it on the old The Dee & The Don 200 route.
We have to go via Oyne to get the 300K distance for the Snow Roads. However, I won't disqualify you if you wanted to do a wee detour down from Clatt and back, if you really really wanted to do it.  ::-)

I remember Suie Hill (ridden the other way) as a wee treat, dished up near the end of the Dee Lechtable.  I just thought that it was a short straight climb and never noticed the long steep dog leg!

Whoomph!  Unexpectedly, I can now get up to Kirrie, thanks to the understanding nature of Mrs G, the kind Mr Exile and the accomodating organiser Eck.

I hope to make up for the ignominious exit from Saturday's so called "Summer" Arrow debacle which turned into a white water event somewhere near Ecclefechan and ended in a train ride home from Carlisle at 180k.  Chapeau to the Ernsts who [literally] ploughed on overnight to make it to York sans team.  I clearly only have the capacity for one really stupid audax per year.

See you Saturday.

G

ps - Eck - have sent you a separate e-mail further to our exchange on Friday.

Ha! Good try.  ::-)  Plenty room left. Will I keep a place for Mrs P too?

33 on the start list as of today. I guess there will be a few DNSs, and perhaps some late comers. I think we will be ok up to about 40 riders.

I think I'm more anxious about organising it than I ever was about riding it!  :-\

I hope it all goes well for you Eck :)

We'll be thinking about you and all the riders while we're relaxing in India 8)

Look on the bright side, as an organizer you get to be an important  part of the event without the unplesantness of having to ride up all those horrible steep bits :P

Thanks Ernst. Hope you have a grand time in India.  8)

I've already had two lots of "unpleasantness" this summer riding up all the steep bits. Still not sure if it's harder than organising it.  ;)

Now then, what should be the ratio of bridies to macaroni pies....?   :-\

Thats a tricky one Eck

X [circa 7% of the population are vegetarians] +
Y [proportionately more audax cyclists are vegetarians than in society generally] +
Z [some non vegetarians may prefer a macaroni pie to a bridie] -
K [some vegetarians may be tempted by the forbidden fruit of a legenday Forfar bridie]

= 1 macaroni pie for every 5 bridies and operate a strict first come first served policy.

Just buy 100% bridies and tell the veggies to pick out the meat*

*This happened to me in America.  Road trip around the States, Burger King (my travelling companions were meat eaters).  To be fair, they did offer me extra fries.
