Actually, do we really need to go all the way to the top Ted? I would say starting at the Rodney would not be all that different to coming from the top. Maybe I need to do a second run down from the Rodney to test this theory.

Errr no, something else I may have neglected to mention...

On Sunday huggy and I identified the official start as being the yellow fire hydrant marker by the green opposite the pink house. If you start at The Rodney you'll disqualified. Don't forget an official official is adjudicating and you won't want to upset her, I bet she's proper mean when riled.

Actually, Tomsk, if you see this in time please could you bring your ACME whistle?  I envisage that maintaining control so proceedings remain orderly could be an issue this evening  >:(

What happens if I get thirsty on the way down and need to stop for a drink before continuing in my attempt? Do I still get disqualified for using the Rodney as a Control?

I am starting to put stuff into the rucksack for this evenings event:

Just gone in -
Set of 3 motorola two way radios with spare battery packs (must bring back into work before next weeks fire alarm test!).

Due to go in when I get home -
Cable ties, plenty of.
Wire cutters - 4 or more pairs, 2 at top of hill, 2 at bottom
Bottle(s) of liquid.
Pointy hat.
Lights for the journey home.
Extra layer of clothing for journey home.

Anything else required to support the rules as we invent them?

Bottles of liquid covers that - just have to make sure I don't pick up the bottle conditioned brews which would be a bit cloudy after a trip in the rucksack, but would give a tailwind all the way home.

For all participants - wear some form of eye protection and keep the mouth shut (scream silently.....).

We don't know what speed each individual will get up to, but my road bike hit 36 in english units, any large insect impact at those speeds hurts and is very distracting.

My recorded track for Sunday morning has a max speed of 60.9kph, could probably have gone quicker if I hadn't bottled it on the snakey road near the Rodney and felt like I needed to scrub some speed...then of course there was the bus not much later!!
The speed trend line is quite amusing 2/3rds the way down TMNH - https://ridewithgps.com/trips/14717743  :D

I'm unfortunately not going to be in attendance this evening, not that my downhill skills would put me anywhere in the reckoning. I'm in need of banking some good sleeps before what is forecast to be a gorgeous weekend for riding in Wessex.

Stay safe, and consider an uphill version (with pedalling allowed) as a possible contra event for later in the year.

I thought the Portsmouth lot did an uphill event on the same day too, but as a leveller, rather than be first up to the top, you had to state a time to ascend, and the person closest to their nominated time was the winner. Obviously no watches, electronics allowed.
