Should COG be calculated on where people live rather than the list of pubs?
You can’t just call time out and stroll on into the beach if you don’t like the way things are goin’.

Probably, but I don't know where most people live so I did it on pubs! If everybody gives me their lat long then I'll do it on where we all live.

Back when there was "forward planning" we have a closed calendar set up etc but avoided general distribution so as to not advertise (until last minute on here) where there were going to be 10 bikes available for a couple of hours - some of the pubs locking up places were /are less than ideal.

There was science behind the last season of forward planning, it lasted at least 2 years I think! :-) Winter pubs short and with potential for gritted roads. Summer a bit longer. A quadrant and a pseudo-random selection of venues to try and spread a fair distribution to pubs whilst still allowing some customization....

I like it

Those were the days. That worked well. If only we had somebody who was unbiased who could set that up again. Perhaps somebody with experience ...

It was based on home locations

On that map, the Swan in Bures closed several years ago. It's now houses.

And the Willows, Cressing; Viper, Mill Green; Three Elms, Chignall St James, maybe more, and several favourites omitted. With new MEMWNS recruits and no doubt slightly altered C.O.G. too we need that new map! And a Forward Planning Obersturmfuhrer (benevolent and impartial).

Sure, ad-hoc negotiations have worked through the pandemic and before as well, but it can get a bit too last minute.

Ah, with my steady domicile progress further East and the rarity of any of my rides being over about 40km, I'm no longer as familiar as I once was with the watering holes of North Essex. Bures/Henny is about as far west as I go these days.

I think that map might be circa late 2017, I am amazed that it lasted so long, my records show I picked it up in April 2017 and we last had pubs in the diary until Feb 2020, though I think it fell in to disuse late 2019, the constant change of venue last minute prompted me to just stop, pandemic finished it off.  I'm not sure I have the time these days that I did in that last 'job'

I'm not sure how much the COG might have shifted, whilst we have a couple of movements on the Eastern front, there are a lot more Westerners now too.. My feeling is it might have moved West a bit and a bit further North - we are lacking South Essex members.

Perhaps we could list the people who would attend and redraw the COG?

Joergen

Sounds like an activity for a Wednesday night.

If my memory serves we well, there's bike parking in a secure area behind The Endeavour. Is that generally open to access, or do we need to arrange in advance?

Here is A ROUTE the Witham peloton might like to follow to The Endeavour.  Stopping at Boss Hogg's on the way home is an option

Arrange in advance, I'll try and drop Naomi a note but can't guarantee.

I think the Witham peloton will land between 2030 and 2100 hours.

Thank you for following up. I could be there for 8pm if anybody else prefers an earlier time, otherwise 8:30pm.
