Fitting patio windows and door
« on: 11 November, 2021, 06:02:20 pm »
MrsC purchased an unfitted set of windows and door for her studio. Bargain price, even including courier costs.

Now I have to fit them - they are monsters of double glazed PVC. 2.7m wide, full door height.

With frames I've fitted in the past, you took the glazing out and screwed through the frames. These are different and seem to require proprietary straps that clip into the frame at right angles to it - the straps then get screwed to the building.

I've had no luck at all identifying exactly which straps fit these. The person who sold us them says he doesn't know who manufactured them and he's never bothered with the proprietary straps, instead just screwing any strapping to the window frame.

Is this valid, is it ok?

It is sheerframe.

They have 3  different fittings :(

I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Looks like an old guide. It says to remove the glazing and drill through the frames.

The glazing is held in place with what looks like clipped-in-place PVC.

I'd have go at removing the glazing (making the job much lighter) and screwing through the frame.

No, download the .pdf and it has profile diagrams for the straps...

I downloaded it - no diagrams or mention of straps.

Very odd.
