Crossing Brussels
« on: 05 October, 2021, 07:05:00 pm »

Am plotting a route for my festive 500. The shortest route is through Brussels. I'm wondering if anyone here has recommendations for a good route to get from the North of Brussels to the South without dying?

My only sojourn into Brussels was a 2km trip from Eurostar to our hotel, and a return the following week. We found the roads so daunting that we pushed our bikes the whole way.

In total contrast we rode into the centre from Leuven on well-designated cycle lanes (pretty much as we'd found around the whole of Belgium)   IIRC there are some online cycling maps for Brussels which would probably answer your question

Google makes will display bike lanes, click layers then more. There seems to be an extensive network.

I've had a few positive suggestions from Twitter. My previous experience of cycling in Brussels was more near misses in 4km, than in a year of Dutch cycling, hence wanting some advice.

Thanks all

Not a recommendation, but this might be a useful resource: https://www.fietsroute.org/cycle-node-planner

Yes, I'm fairly sure the best way to cross Brussels is by train.  Not very helpful, I know.
