It seems to me that cuckoos have been staging something of a recovery this year, based on an admittedly small sample. Ramsden Heath brother has reported multiple sightings, including in his garden and also two birds at once. Shropshire brother this morning reported the first Condover Cuckoo “for several years”. Pal Mel reported hearing one, quite loudly, in his urban garden, admittedly only half a mile away from a park where one has been singing merrily all spring. And even one of my neighbours reported hearing one in her back garden a week or so ago, and we are a good mile away from anywhere I would expect a cuckoo to turn up.
