It was the only logical destination for him, once he wasn't staying at Barca.

One interesting thing from that BBC article (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58159464 ) is that the previously quoted salary of 40m Euro appears to have been after tax!!! That takes it from being excessive to utterly barmy.
