"A glass and a half in every bar."

BBC News - Cadbury drops 'glass and a half' slogan

Although it does look like a walnut whip in a cornet.
It is simpler than it looks.

Is this a piss take? Firstly;
Quote
In its place, it now reads: "The equivalent of 426ml of fresh liquid milk in every 227g of milk chocolate".
Surely no one is going to print something so cumbersome on any packaging?
Secondly;
Quote
"Because EU regulations state that by 2010 all weights and measures on packs must be in metric, given our long run times we felt it was sensible to make that change now," said spokesperson Tony Bilsborough.
Today is 28 September 2010. Unless this 'news' has been hanging around for at least a year, it sounds suspect.

Surely if the metric rules apply then "1.5 glasses of milk in every bar" would work? :)

It's an advertising orientated PR release that the BBC have obediently picked up and presented as "news". Atrocious.

Then again, there is a recession on and, I suppose, eliminating the costs of actual you know, journalism all helps with the austerity programme.

Yes, but does the chocolate taste any better now it's metric?  :)

For the purposes of research*, I went to buy a Dairy Milk bar.

Sadly, I had not researched closely enough what size I needed, so I bought the one size they had: 49g.

It is, of course, metric, and has been for years.

There is the 'glass & a half' design, but nowhere do the words appear (either in the traditional or the supposed new form).  If we are talking about a 227g size, then it could be argued that the graphic itself is misleading.

You do realise, Clarion, there are now 1962 Yacfers awaiting their own Dairy Milk bar - even a small one - through the post. Or are you going to pop round on your Rudge and deliver it personally?  :)

You missed "The equivalent of..." from the front of the quote.

You don't get a 1 year shelf life from fresh liquid milk - they use UHT milk and milk powder.

Chocolate made with fresh milk/fresh cream/fresh butter tastes absolutely wonderful, but only has a four week shelf life.

But it would still be a glass and a half for your 49 g bar, just a very, very small glass.  Oompa loompa size.
