Title: How do I set myself up as administrator on my laptop?
Post by: alchemy on 11 July, 2008, 10:58:38 am
Whenever I try to save files on the C drive of my laptop or make any sorts of changes I get a message saying I can't do it because I don't have administrator rights. It asks if I want to save the files in the "Carl" file instead. I've looked in "my computer" but can't find anything useful. The OS is Vista Home Basic.

How can I set myself up as the administrator?

You have to go to control panel - and then users or user accounts or somthing like this. But (and it's a biggy)

You need to be an administrator to change the access levels of user accounts. Hopefully there should be another logon id which is the administrator.

Control Panel -> User Accounts -> User Accounts -> Change Your Account Type

Thanks guys - I've had a look under control panel and apparently I'm set up as administrator already, so I'll try again.

If that doesn't work I'm not sure what else to do to fix it, but think I can live with it.
