GN: Mrs and Ms Marco and me are in Sydney.

BN: category 2 cyclone hits Sydney with worst weather for a decade, 130kmh winds and heavy rain for the last two days and nights.

GN: Mrs Marco packed all the waterproofs...

BN: Sydneysiders don't recognise waterproofs as a valid clothing type and make do with umbrellas, which are bloody everywhere. Good choice for a cyclone...

GN - I received an invite to the Christmas do for the first time this year

BN - It was a mistake as "unfortunately it's company policy that only direct employees are invited to the party" and the person sending out the invites says "This is the first year that I've been asked to arrange and unfortunately I was provided with the wrong information of who to invite."

60% of the most profitable department in the company are - like me - contractors. It's wonderful to be valued...

However..

GN - I wont be faced with the trek back from Sheffield on a December Sunday morning  ;)

GN: it has finally stopped raining after 3 days and 2 nights

BN: loads of flooding in Sydney and Hunter Valley, and over 100 car drivers rescued so far trying to drive through floods... Floating houses too.

GN: sun is out!

BN: we still have odd sleeping patterns. Late up...

GN: I am seeing the same group in Bilston on December 10th

BN: I have no leave to do either trip, although the latter is within an hour or so by train

GN: I shall accost the scheduler tomorrow to juggle my days.

As am I, since it appears to be the closest to That London they are coming this year.  Perhaps we might even manage to meet this time ;D

The last attempt to meet up being Kentish Old Town, October 2008, IIRC! My local mate has found out about a brew pub near the venue. I shall let you know.

Edit: must be this place: http://www.oldcannonbrewery.co.uk/drink/ though anywhere calling itself a brasserie gets my CAMRA-Man senses tingling.

Cross post in the ether. Are you OK for meeting up in such a place?

GN - they were outside the city being driven about when the earthquake struck

BN - they could see the city's buildings toppling form a distance

GN - they survived

Talking of The Forum, they're only playing there in October! I shan't be going. London gigs are too big and impersonal.

BN: At a funeral this morning.

GN: Friend whom I haven't seen in years came to the UK for funeral, and we'll catch up tomorrow.

GN: After above  BN found a charming used book shop staffed by a lovely proprietess, with whom I passed quite some time chatting about everything and nothing.

GN: In less than two hours I'll be listening to a talk on bikes & bloomers.

After a rough start, it's turned into a pretty good day.

Win 8 is mostly OK if you're allowed to install Classic Start Menu, though there are still some things buried in the depths of the Fisher-Price interface which you can't get at from Control Panel chiz.

Bah: my washing machine sounds like it's full of rocks.  I didn't think washings machines used the same gearbox as a Speed Six Bentley.
