Job application help
« on: 06 February, 2019, 07:34:41 pm »
My partner has applied for a job & got this response:
Your application is currently on hold, and we will be in contact with you shortly to let you know the next stage of the recruitment process.

Any clues what this actually means please?

'Don't hold your breath'?

It's either a standard acknowledgement and they will get back with maybe an interview, or it's we've got someone better fitted who hasn't made their mind up yet.
I always used to work on the basis that once I'd sent an application off I tried to ignore it until something definitive happened.

I think that's HR-speak for "nothing's currently happening because HR".

More applicants than they were expecting.  HR is off sick. Too busy to do the sift.
Or not sure if they actually need anyone for that post after all.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Head of HR's son has just been made redundant by HMV.

They have a preferred applicant, but they have to jump through various Hostile Environment / DBS check hoops before they can make them an offer, and everything else is in limbo until then.

Quite often aboard the mothership it's budgets, someone has decided to quibble, or push the recruitment into the next quarter/year etc. They'll generally wait until you've done all the recruitment and are on the cusp of hiring someone before announcing this.

I've had this where HR/Management decide to halt or pause recruitment at DATE and anything which is before a set point is either terminated or put on pause... Sometimes they email X weeks later to say "yes interview/no interview" or "sorry job is no longer being advertised" - the latter is most common.
