111 finishers listed. Did 200+ really start or was that the number of entries? Seems a high DNF rate anyway - I didn't see a huge number of cards still left with 10 minutes before start time.
I spoke to BlackSheep during the event and he told me there had been 30-40 non-starters. Even if there were 200+ entrants rather than starters, this is still I high attrition rate. Though I did come across several people packing, and I was towards the front of the field. For people at the back, with the weather deteriorating, a DNF must have been very tempting.

Actually I don't blame anyone who didn't finish the event. The last section was really not terribly pleasant.

The Rain was terrible at the end of the ride ..... I  had also drunk so much of the rain water mixed with sheep, cow and anything else (Known as Belgium Toothpaste from my racing days )that  I started  a vomiting  stage where for 20km I kept stopping and was trying to throw up.... I met anoyher guy who also had the same effects... very unpleasant ...  thankfully it stopped and I grovelled sodden to the finish line in Chepstow!  ;D

As shown on http://www.aukweb.net/results/detail/this/listevent/?Ride=15-249  there were 111 finishers, that's 110 on the day, and one helper that rode on the Thursday before, (ACP'S  BRM events don't allow for post event helpers ride).

I ordered 175 brevet cards, that was to allow for late entries and any EOLs, yes there was a couple of EOLs - they both finished.

Probably about 40 to 50 DNS, and no more than a dozen DNF.

First rider back at 22.00 hrs give or take five mins, lantern rouge back at 08.30, which considering the weather was remarkable on both counts.

The AAA points have been adjusted from 2.25 to 3.5 pts? My results page was updated on Friday and I see the event page now mentions revised points.  What a pleasant surprise. :)

I think that very appropriately reflects the climbing on the event and makes it compare favourably with eg The Dean which gets 4 AAA climbies; it also brings me nearer to 50 points this AAA year  ;D IF I survive BCM I`ve passed that milestone

I only got half an AAA point when I did the Brevet Cymru in 1996.
That's all the AAA I ever got.

I think Wales is obviously getting lumpier.

Much lumpier.

My GPS had recorded something like 4000m in the first 300km so this isn't surprising.

even Strava upload recorded 4 500 m, and it does seem to under record altitude cf other online sources RWGPS gave 4 800m.

Well the earthquakes in ?Nepal dropped many Himslayan Peaks by 1m. Maybe every Welsh road  pass has risen 1m to compensate.

Unless you tweak the GPX file from an Etrex, Strava swindles you out of some height climbed.

Blacksheep....I think for only 12 DNF that not bad in event that got very cold and wet towards the end for the slower riders!.. Bravo for the chap that finished at 22.00 hours .. Time for a pint and then off to a nice warm Bed ... hopefully not woken by the rain bouncing off the roof or tapping on the window!!

The Strava ...distance and metres climbed is interesting .. My stats were total dist 413km (Detour down some lanes off the A40 near final stop )  4705 m climbing with 20hours 28 min in the saddle. Interesting to hear other final Stats... for comparison..?

Perhaps lighter wheels would help.

Do they take hub gears and drum brakes?

Don't think so. But you could always buy a lighter frame to go with them.

Hats off to all Finishers. Yep the 22.00 finisher did well, so did the 08.30 finisher, she went non-stop from Llandovery - having got to Llangattock as we closed. If she had stopped at Llangattock, it's more than likely she would not have made the arrivee before closing. Now that's shrewd and hard riding .

Brevet cards dropped through the letterbox this morning - they're now on their way back to their owners - via the manager at the local post office.
