Isle of Wight Festival of Cycling
« on: 20 July, 2012, 09:32:00 pm »
I'm thinking of doing this in September and wonder if anyone has been and can recommend or otherwise as a worthwhile trip from Edinburgh (car to port at least, not cycling all the way).  Also if anyone knows of a decent campsite on the island (they all seem to be mini Butlins) or reasonable B&B.

Thanks

I have no experience of the festival, although I've thought about going. The cleanest campsite I have ever visited is at New Church in the centre of the Island. I came out of the loo to find the warden cleaning the taps with a toothbrush! It was nice there although I was the only lightweight camper. The pitches were large though and the people in the caravan next to me gave me a cup of tea. :)

The Isle of Wight is always lovely though. If you get a train down you can go on the foot ferry with your bike - it's a lot easier.  :)
