Thanks barakta. Get well soon, you!

It doesn't help that some colleagues have cast-iron immunities to bugs and enjoy gloating/ making snide comments.

"Oh, is Peli off sick again?! I grin and bear it when I'm sick - you've just got to get on with it, haven't you?"

 >:( >:( >:(

Kissing cousin to "oh, come on, you're not going to let a teensy little [xxxx] keep you home, are you?"

Where xxx = malady of your choice, e.g. broken thumbnail, cracked skull, heart attack, broken leg, etc.

Kissing cousin to "oh, come on, you're not going to let a teensy little [xxxx] keep you home, are you?"

I think people aren't accustomed to people having "actually bad asthma" or diabetes and assume cos many people benefit from modern meds that it's not much of an issue. And they don't know stuff like people who use wheelchairs are at risk of UTIs and chest infections being VERY dangerous. I don't know how I do know stuff like this, possibly from my activism and work with disabled people, learning from people with different conditions and making sure I help educate others (or tell them to ask medical advice) in others (as I've met lifelong fairly severely disabled wheelchair users who didn't know a chest infection was potentially dangerous as all heck for them)

I often take great delight in asking ppl dismissing me where they got their medical degree (or equivalent clinical qualification) from and what specialism they have in snot/bones/etc and if they think their judgement is more important than my $clinician...

For all that clinicians are not all perfect, I rarely meet one who dismisses health/illness stuff for me, if anything they're inclined to slight overprotection and underestimating my capacity. Then again, there aren't many people a decade or more older than me with some of the conditions I was born with - they simply didn't survive. Older clinicians remember those patients and younger clinicians are better at recognising treatment doesn't always eradicate long term effects and issues.

I think it's probably best if I remain clean shaven, rather than my usual 3-4 day designer "stubble". Had a shave yesterday to make myself presentable for Xmas day.  Big sore patches on my left jaw line, where I seem to regularly pick at the beard hairs, which generally results in them ending up ingrown and infected, which I then dig out with tweezers... Perhaps I have some sort of weird beard trichotillomania?

Pulled a muscle in my buttock. I have a 50km ride planned for Wednesday and a 165km ride on Thursday. I really hope it unfreezes by then.

My brother does this too. Once it gets too long he worries at it.

Use these, and you'll never have ingrown hair problems again:

My understanding is that trichotillomania can be pulling any hair anywhere on the body. A friend has it and it isn't just head hair she pulls.

Forgetting** that I have diminished perception of temperature in my feet, I accompanied the missus on a walk round the village yesterday when the thermometer read -4°C.  As we were approaching home I remarked on a tramp round the fields we'd done in 1995, when I came home with frost-nip.  Last night I noticed a bit of pain in one big toe, and on removing my sock found a small red area right at the tip. Hello again.  :-\

-10° last night, -8° just now. I'm staying in.

My sertraline-induced perimenopause-enhanced hot flushes are ridiculous. The sweat was literally dripping off me in bed last night and when I pulled the duvet covers back this morning, the wet patches on the bottom and top sheets looked like I spent the night wetting myself.

You have my sympathy EG, though my own hot flushes have been much less dramatic!

There were times last winter when a sudden cosy sensation was quite welcome...

Ditto.  But I find it's closely stress-related so I've been much better since I jacked in teaching two years ago.

Dear Gout,

Kindly fuck off, and keep being fucked off. Pretending to go away, then coming back with a vengeance isn't very polite. I have recently given consideration to chopping the bottom half of my leg off with a blunt saw. I think it would be less painful.  :(

Saw the Neurologist yesterday after my suspected possibly/maybe very minor TIA in November and we both agreed that it's much more likely to be a combination of a cold and my migraines as I show no symptoms whatsoever and CT scan/bloodwork/ECG/etc  were all clear.
Never had pins & needles down my arm from migraines before, but she said it's not uncommon.
She still wants to send me for an MRI to make absolutely sure and I didn't object. (I think MRI machines are very cool, so of course not!).

Buggered my lower back getting a 40-kilo bandsaw out of the car and into my workshop.  Felt fine after and all evening too but this morning I was hobbling.

Most annoying when I have dead greenhouse to cut up and a bunch of new tools to play with.

Erk, but glad you are getting it looked into. Hope you get seen soon and sorted if possible.

Hospital called to book the MRI scan; I was told that there was an 18 month(!) waiting list for regular daytime slots, but that they did operate 24/7, so if I was flexible, I could get a spot earlier. "Sure, I'm flexible", I said, expecting something 6-8 months away, but no, Feb 2 @ 2:30am :).

That's a bummer.  Angiogram's the better option: if there is anything they can most likely bung in a stent and fix it there and then, whereas if the scan shows anything up they'll probably send you for an angiogram.

There's little cause for worry.  Plenty of folk with angioplasties do 1000k rides.

Eye lasering on Thursday to correct my -1.75 myopia and astigmatism.  Looking forward to it in a funny kind of way.

This arsing cold has been tormenting me to the extent that I haven't had a voice for any of this year.  My similarly-afflicted colleagues tell me it's at least a month before you're even close to normal, without the hacking cough and the exhaustion.

Apparently the need for Tena Lady is almost universal for those afflicted.  I should have bought shares.

Bah.

I found today that a properly tightened working at height harness does not play well with my hip*. The leg straps align the pelvis tilt and then presses across the front of the joint. Now feeling sore and the clickiness is back so I shall have to rest it and loose some weight.

My innards are troubling me. I've been having intermittent bouts of Bristol stool chart 5s and 6s with noticeable urgency for ages now, but put it down to my sertraline. But I've been on the sertraline 18 months and the innards problems are getting worse - I'm shitting multiple times a day, I'm having unpleasant gnawing pain in my mid abdomen sometimes, followed by a 3-4 on the stool chart, crampy growliness in my lower abdomen at times, and lots and lots of urgency followed by more 5s and 6s. And when I say urgency, if I lived on the 3rd floor instead of the 2nd, I'd have a lot of cleaning up to do. So I'm off to the GP tomorrow.
Outpatient appointment is next week, but it's not a colonoscopy appointment, just an appointment.

HK fractured a shoulder on ice yesterday. The previous break in September should have healed to normal strength by now but it has broken in the same place. Some bone density investigation or suchlike seems necessary IMHO.

Agreed.

You might have to fight though.

Mend well HK!
