No, it's the problem half!

Now there is a question.  At times he typifies the English way for me.  Reserved, quiet, misunderstood but then he has a drink and he changes to more Australian but with that British humour underneath it all.

A good read in my view.

I used to know Gary a bit, the book is very candid!!

Sky Sports 1 are showing Tour Down Under live now. I just stumbled upon it. I quite like the coverage so far. Not a fan of Boardman's beard though

It was on in the pub last night as well.

Chris Boardman's beard just looks so wrong.  :o ;D

At last, cycling on the telly in the pub

Crikey. Will there ever have been more interest in the Tour of Qatar?

I'm disappointed to see that Wiggins is still adding fuel to his ongoing spat with Millar and with Garmin in general. He could do with some lessons in sportmanship.

??? You appear to be defining the word gamesmanship.  Not the same thing at all !

If you define sportsmanship as the conformance to the rules, spirit, and etiquette of sport, well this sport doesn't have spirit and etiquette any more. That was been destroyed years ago. It's not cricket.

In my opinion that's a generalisation too far. No sport is perfect, but from what I see, cycling still retains much of what it once had. Easily more so than football.

What does concern me is the big money approach of Sky and the influence it seems to be starting to have on cycling e.g. Wiggins' contract. I hope it doesn't erode the sport like it has with football, ultimately turning it into a business, dominated by only a few competitive teams. A (winning  :)) British team is great, but if it came down to a choice to guarantee the continued essence of the sport or not have Team Sky, I think I'd opt for the former, although I hope it's not a choice that needs to be seriously considered.

Yes, the rampant cheating in the first editions of the Tour de France put paid to that  ;)

There has always been cheats in professional cycling and always been people prepared to find ways within the rules to gain an advantage that can be considered unsportsmanlike. Intimidation. Technology. Drugs. For Example.

Technology.

Ah you must be referring to Maurice Garin's use of a locomotive train in 1904  :D

Anyone else notice that the Sky kit was different at yesterday's opening stage of the Giro? It only appears to be the lettering used for the main logo, but if it's permanent, it's certainly enough to upset anyone who's already bought a jersey!

I'm wondering if perhaps Sky use a different logo in Italy, although I can't understand why they would?
