Title: Vasectomy
Post by: GrahamG on 22 December, 2018, 08:02:21 pm
Can't find any previous threads on this surprisingly, but I'm wondering I'd the 2 weeks off the bike I was told to take was a bit 'risk averse'or out I should just enjoy a bike free Christmas break!

I guess that 2 weeks complete lay-off is more than the average fit cyclist would need - but individual cases are bound to vary.  See how you feel.  I only had a few days off the bike, and I seem to remember getting a prize in a jiving competition the weekend after   :o. Not that I'm recommending that you do the same, you understand.

I've had two vasectomies. After the first one, the tests still showed positive so I underwent the procedure again some months after the first operation.

After the first operation, I had two days off the bike and then began using my bike to commute to work again.

The second one didn't seem so painful, so I rode to work the following day.

Depends on how bruised you get! I didn't have any trouble but friends did.
Back cycling after 2-3 days myself, just watch out for potholes!

I don't think you'll find it makes a vast differens

Depends on how easy you make it for the surgeon.  As Mrs Pingu says, don't clench.  (To avoid bruising)
Long time ago, but I think that I was not off the bike for more than a day.

It depends . . .

If all goes well, then two weeks is ridiculous. I had issues during my vasectomy (the anesthetic didn't work on one side, they had to have three goes at it). Left me with permanent cysts.

That is unusual. However I was doing gentle cycling within 2 days.

2 weeks? Think you could probably snip that in half

I dunno, getting back in the saddle after just week might be cutting it a bit fine.

It's not safe until the juices run clear

DON’T DO IT!

My second vasectomy ended up with me being hospitalised for a week. Minor operation my arse.

Well, that's an unusual location for a vasectomy?

Just listen to the doctor.  If you can't contemplate two weeks off the bike, they are operating on the wrong bit.

I had bad swelling, must of been of the bike 5-6 days in the end. Day two was painful. I've never known such a varied response about any other medical procedure, lads do love a good story to tell.

I had 2 weeks off due to having it under general anesthetic due to previous scar tissue. The surgeon must have used a hacksaw to do the job.

I was carrying 2 satsuma sized balls for a week, the second week was less painful but I didn't even contemplate a bike ride.

Just a smidge over 48 hours now, feeling good, not had any bruising or swelling, managed to wander around the zoo and then do the food shopping without any ill effects.

Glad it's gone well for you.  I'm a week post op.  I did have bruising and couldn't have contemplated getting on a bike until today and still not sure it would be comfortable.  I'm sticking to the 2 weeks off...

Thought it only right to update for any future reference.... did a sort rode with kids after 6 days no problem but didn't feel up to a proper ride until perhaps 7 or 8 days, only mistake I made was doing 2+ hours on fixedas my first longer ride back about two weeks past op which led to a little ball ache but all fine since.

I don't understand vasectomy...

Once you've had your 2-5 kids, do you really still have the time and inclination to make the operation pay for itself?  ::-)
