Rapha shoe width?
« on: 27 June, 2024, 05:12:52 pm »
Anyone know what Rapha classic shoe sizing is like width-wise?

I recently switched from Giro Savick size 43 to Specialized Torch 42. The Giro's were too long and slightly too narrow. So are the Specialized. Rapha has a sale on of their classics, and they claim to have a wide toe box, plus they are lace ups, which I'd like to try. Probably not Lake wide, but I don't have 300 odd to drop on a pair of shoes right now (my dog is incredibly ill).

So, does anyone know what they are like? My feet are basically triangles.

Blimey, Spesh are pretty wide.

You must have absolute plates.  Don't go near Sidi or Shimano then.

I've had foot injuries that have left me with issues in the bone structure and arthritis. My feet are wide across the forefoot and also really sensitive to pressure due to inflamed nerves. The Specialized are really close, but I'm still suffering from hot foot in the most sensitive foot. I might try a pair of their high insoles, but I thought lace-ups might be the answer.

I feel your pain. I've got wide feet at the forefoot too and used to get horrendous hot foot until I discovered that Specialized road shoes suit me really well.

I know you've dismissed Lake's but using their wide fit sorted out my hot foot. They're not the cheapest but I've had a few pairs and never paid £300, these are the ones I'm currently wearing which are £150.00 https://www.saltdogcycling.com/lake-mx177-wide-fit-mountain-bike-shoes/, I'm a bit cautious about endorsing brands but these have been a game changer for me (I found the Salt Dog people super helpful with sizing when I first got a pair).
Hope your dog's health improves soon

Richard at Salt Dog recommended two models to me. One is £300 and the other is £295. The latter is currently on sale at 180, but not in stock in my size.

So does anyone know if Rapha are even a smidge (it only needs to be a smidge) wider than Specialized?

i've tried rapha's shoes on a few years ago, so they might be different now. they were very similar width to s-works, but even these vary in width (i have a handful of pairs). with shoes it's best to try on - even your favourite brand can (and do) change the fit and shape.

Never mind. I retried the size calculator at Salt Dog and it gave me a different model, which was in stock, although still £180 (which is more than I'd like to be paying just now, but I can't bear the pain in my feet any more).

I now understand what you meant when you said they were a game changer! I haven't fitted cleats, yet, because I need some time to get used to the idea that I don't need to have about 2 inches of room in the front of my shoes to get the width I need.

They are so wide for their length they almost look like hooves.
