We are going with a couple of friends so thought that I'd put it out there just in case anybody else fancies turning up at any point during our stay.
We will not be cycling but don't let that stop you.
We will not be organising any events, outings, meals, etc., just relaxing.
We will be happy to see friendly faces should you be so inclined.
For those not familiar with Twiteys take a look at the website. If you are alone but fancy coming along, try to buddy up with others and share a pitch. There will be four of us (3 tents) and a gazebo on our pitch so sorry but we have no extra space.
I know that they will accommodate parties with adjacent pitches if that is important to you. The site is not impossibly though. I can enquire if there is demand ...
The firepit makes for a great evening social gathering space as the daylight fades. Always good to have a seat around the fire ...
Aside from a nice weekend with friends the primary reason for the trip is a kit shakedown before our longer break in June so we will not be taking the big inflatable tent, rather the Hilleberg Keron 4GT and the 3m x 3m "mess tent" gazebo which will also provide a place for me to shelter from the sun.
That's it. Now it's up to you.

Pencilled in.
-
I keep thinking "That sounds fun!" when I see these things, then I go see where it is and realise how long it would take to get there.

-
Crayonated, will see according to other plans, developments and inclinations.
-
Best thing about Twiteys is unlike many places, you don't end up camping in a car park, so you can watch the sunset around the 🔥
-
Yes, that is a Good Thing.
I will express a tentative interest but much depends on Dez's and Jan's health.

We'll be heading towards Orkney in June all being well. Any closer? 🙂
-
Actually yes! And I've always wanted to go to Orkney.

Pencilled in too :)
-
Living only about 3 miles as the crow flies, and about 5 by road it would seem rude not to tootle over for a chat.
... and some trivia, when Michael Twite (as in Twitey) was running his landscaping business he did some work at out previous house in SuA.
-
Always a pleasure to see you Rob.
-
I will try to attend finance's permitting :) .
-
That's Apollo's birthday weekend so I'm guessing that you will already have other plans.
-
Just a wee bump in case folks might be interested. I'm quite looking forward to a day out to Warwick and the wonderful Hill Close Gardens.
-
I should be there. Do we need to start thinking about a group pitch booking ? Who else is in ?
-
Our pitch is already as full as I would like with mllePB and two other friends. 3 tents and our "mess tent", a Coleman gazebo. If there is just one more we could just about squeeze you in but more than 1, definitely not.
-
I can't commit to anything until the orthopods get a chance to meditate on barakta's x-rays in a couple of weeks time.
-
A "pitch" sleeping 8 for the 5 nights 9th to 14th works out at £114. Who's in ?
-

Ooh, could be. The nannies are planning something but I think that is the week before.
-
I'm hoping to get there for a night or two - most likely 9th/10th or 10th/11th. Depending on other commitments, it might just be for the one night - the 10th. Just one bike and a 2 man "backpacking" tent.
-

World Domination? I for one, welcome our Norland over ladies…..

Hmm. This sounds interesting.
Sadly, I don't have to worry about Dez's health any more, but it depends whether Jan will feel able to cope with a weekend on he own. She won't/can't camp.

Glamping an option?
-
It’s a thought. The issues are to do with cold amp air and asthma, and being able to get up at bladder o’clock.
-
The wee glamping sheds looked very interesting when we did our walk-a-round last time. Something similar a couple of hours from home would be quite appealing.
-
I still think the major issue is bladder o'clock. We could bring our big camping bucket, but it's a pretty costly weekend for a tent, albeit a luxury tent.
-
Having enjoyed a few days of almost no rain and the ground having finally dried out a bit I took the recently acquired Hilleberg Keron 4GT to the rec just to put her up and check her over.
I had checked it out from the bag when I bought her some months back and all seemed in order but there is no test better than a full erection. 🤭
Anyhoo, all is well. Add in to this that we've bought a king size rectangular sleeping bag with zips along each edge allowing me to hang a limb or two out for cooling through the night as I do with the duvet at home and I am confident that Twiteys will be another very comfortable experience.
Looking forward to a few days away from everyday life.
-
I'm planning to load the bike on Tuesday & ride down. Has anyone else booked a pitch yet ?
I note that the intrepid Kim has been camping in the Lakes over the last few days where she has been horribly nibbled by midgies. Don't forget the repellant. Another site advises me that ticks are out in force this year as well. :( Warmer & wetter.....
-
As far as I know I have booked a pitch which we are sharing with our non-YACF friends. Cycleman has intimated an interest but nothing more as far as I know. Perhaps send him a PM?
That's my understanding so far.
-
I'm hoping to make it for Friday night (only, unfortunately) but was just going to turn up and see what pitch was available.
-
I shan’t make it, tempting though it is.
-
I'm back from the Lake District (where it rained) via the midgefest of Delamere Forrest (where pre-emptive application of DEET on the return trip started to dissolve my cycling mitts). Will give this proper consideration once I've dealt with the considerable backlog of Stuff that needs doing now I have a real computer, and have dried all my kit out.
Has anyone apart from PB booked a pitch?
It would be Friday and Saturday nights at the most, though. Barakta only just got me back.
-
If I was ever considering this, I no longer am. Birthday party in the Forest on Saturday, "stewarding" at an event on Sunday, gosh, what an exciting weekend, ect, ect, and so on.
-
I’m on my way but expect to be SLOW as I’m totally out of condition. If nothing goes wrong I might make it by Friday evening. Looking at their website there were plenty of pitches available at the weekend.
-
Status update:
At present there is teh Bears with our non-yacf friends on one pitch from Thursday for 4 nights and Kim, andrewc and cycleman on a second pitch. Kim for 2 nights, andrewc and cycleman for 3 nights from Friday.
We will be having a firepit on our pitch so please feel free to bring your camping chairs, preferred victuals and convivial nature and join us at any time*.
* Well, perhaps not between the hours of 11pm and 8am ... 🤔😉
-
How can you "lose" 12 cannisters of Coleman C500 camping gas in a loft left apparently unmolested since they were put there in September?
-
On my way :). Having breakfast at the Scottish restaurant in high Wycombe 😋
-
I have booked and paid for pitch 9 in my name, Goode, from Friday for the cycle tourists. It's £15 per night payable to myself please.
-
Thanks PB. I didn’t set off until Wednesday lunchtime. I’m currently camped at Much Wenlock, feeling tired & sore. It was a gorgeous day today, but I couldn’t find either of my Tilley’s so am a bit pink.
-
Steeped in a field entrance just outside Banbury last night and am curronently having breakfast at the garage café in kineaton
.about 8 miles to go :)
-
I’m thinking that I’ll have to resort to Bloody Trains if I want to get there tonight!
Direct train from Kidderminster to Stratford is £14.90
-
I've finished the Stuff that needed doing here, and am just packing a few things back onto my bike before setting off imminently. I expect I'll get there between 4-5pm, depending on whether the Lake District was Good Training or has left me Utterly Knackered.
-
I'm quite tempted to jump in the car and turn up, given the weather and the company... but they don't allow dogs (Jon's away and I've no-one to look after Jack) and I really have to go to the gym in the morning.
I hope you all have fun! And someone please dig out some aloe vera gel for Andrew...
-
It is unpleasantly warm and sunny here ...
-
As you are only just off one of my regular ride routes I may grace you with my presence, briefly, on Saturday around mid-morning.
-
And the snoring begins...
-
A very convivial evening was had around the firepit with folk finally begining to venture towards their own pits at around 11:30ish.
A strange feint greeny, pinky, purply, bluey hue adorned the sky to our west and north at this time. Subsequent googling confirms my suspicions of the Northern Lights.
Some folk intend to venture out this morning but there will be somebody in camp Rob. We're in pitches 8 and 9 at the fat end of the upper meadow.
