Hi,

I am organising 3 AUDAX rides in 2009. They all start from Dalmeny near the forth road Bridge to the North side of Edinburgh.

22nd    March       100km    Twa Wee Coonties
24th   May   200km   Kingdom of Fife
20th    Sept    160km    3 Gens explorer

How can we get more out on the AUDAX rides?
Can somebody start a new thread???
Could do with some better signage, flying banners etc to give starts more of an image.

Have a relaxing crimble.

John M

Does it still go up Butser Hill?

Yes, that's the Harvesting Lane bit.

Why don't you start an organiser's thread yourself?

Heart of the Shires 100 and 200 from Walton in Leicestershire on 6 June.

Routes are being tweaked again this year to improve cafe stops

That'll be Walton near Kimcote, Bruntingthorpe, N and S Kilworth etc. will it?

Do you know of any 'credit card' accommodation nearby please?

Provisionally:
Barbury Bash 110/210km     Sun June 7th

Well, this is now officially happening. It only just scraped into the calendar, so although entries are trickling in I suspect it may have escaped the notice of many, so here's a quick plug:

DPCC present, after a 2 year sabbatical,

Barbury Bash 100 & 200 km Audaxes
Sunday June 7th 2009, from Milton nr Abingdon

Two scenic rides to the iron-age fort of Barbury Castle.

Enjoy views of Wiltshire and the Vale of the White Horse over tea-n-cake. Both routes then return to base via green lanes through the Berkshire Downs.

The 200 adds a diversion along the roman Chute Causeway, a romp into the Chilterns, and a quick stop at a traditional Wessex rainforest.

To enter, please use the regular AUK forms. Enquiries : email audax_at_didcotphoenix.co.uk

(Late entries / EOL by arrangement - PM me!)

Those interested in such things may wish to know that the highest speed I have ever achieved on a bike was on this event a few years back.  It is a dead-end road up to Barbury Castle, and if you get there amongst the earlier riders there is virtually no traffic around.  The descent is steep, straight (with excellent visibility of upcoming traffic) and when I did it had a fantastic surface.

Not quite 3 figures of kph, but very close indeed.

It's popular with Swindonians as a place to picnic/walk/dog/burn stolen cars.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Well the Ballachulish weekend has now come and gone but the Edinburgh based "Nippy Sweetie" is on 14th November.

Not to mention a planned BRM 400k from Edinburgh (or maybe Dalmeny) on 8 May 2010.

No routesheet in the history of all things ever has been even close to Peter Turnbull-proof.

Vide Ivo - I'd send Mel & Peter out with GPS trackers, and org an event on the random results ;D

Edit: sometime org of "Old Rds & Drove Rds" 200.
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

Hopefully organising a new 200 (plus 100 and 50) to take place in July 2009.  Starting in Redhill, Surrey.

A local ride at last!!
