Slow roasted shoulder of mutton. A new recipe, but it looked fine when I checked half an hour ago.

Roasted a peasant yesterday, had the legs last night with parsnips and greens, turned the breasts into a red Thai curry for today and tomorrow.

Good vfm, at about three quid from the farmers market

Not much.
Had Edgware CTC Christmas Lunch in the Dumb Bell.

Good ratatouille & cranberry sauce.
Suffing very salty.
Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes rather dry.
Not a bad meal...

We had our 'reserve' Quorn Seasonal Roast with most of the trimmings.

Quorn roast had a mediocre palatability best left for a midweek non-occasion.

Pigs in blankets and stuffing balls had been in the freezer for two years. I somewhat overcooked these but they were fine.

Plain, microwaved vegetables were fine, though nothing special.

I had made a fruit sauce to go with the Xmas roast in vast excess and froze ⅔ of it. It was the best part of the meal. (Cranberries, sugar, apple, orange, lemon and lime juices & dried apricots.)

The West of London Astronomical Society held its Annual Dinner at The Orchard, a Beefeater (Whitbread) restaurant.
David and I had a Sharing Platter, which was enormous, good fun but rather slow to arrive.
David's Teriyaki Salmon arrived before we'd finished our starter.
My Rainbow Bowl did not arrive.
At all. Ever.
Some desserts were extremely slow arriving, which was unsurprising as waiting staff seemed to ignore us when we tried to order desserts.
They had NO COFFEE of any sort.
One diner received his dessert when most of our party had packed up and gone home.

Friday night is chippy night. Haddock, chips & peas with a side of 'English' curry sauce - which must not be added until the fish has been consumed.

We had developed something of a broccoli surplus, so I bought some Stilton today. Stilton and broccoli soup, the youngest will complain, bitterly. But it will make no difference

With jam and yoghurt or sugar and lemon.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Dr Beardy was most upset at the lack of golden syrup on the house this evening, so she decided to experiment with Reece’s Pieces. She declared that a success.

https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/nasi-goreng-indonesian-stir-fried-rice?amp

The woman at the checkout at Wilkos recommended this recipe. I bought some thyme and rosemary for the garden and we got talking about cooking.

They had some of the stuff at Aldi, but I had to go to Morrison’s for the Indonesian soy sauce, sesame seeds, chillis, cashews, turmeric, nutmeg and a couple of other things. Neither had fish paste so I bunged in a few anchovies in oil.  My formerly-fixed mixte Josette is such a good errand-girl.

My, but it’s good. Lovely fresh bright Indonesian flavours. And chicken ‘n’ rice just works, doesn’t it.
Milk please, no sugar.

Probably have quinoa. Don't know when though.

David has carefully weighed the grain and put it with water in a pan on the cooker.

He has gone upstairs.

The cooker is unlit...

When I was growing up in NI it was tea, when we moved to France it became dinner and moved back about 2 hours - we usually started cooking around 7 and ate towards 8:30, spreading it over an hour or two - then when MrsT's folks forsook Yorkshire and joined us and her dad had a hefty heart attack it moved to lunchtime and the light meal we had in the evening became supper. Since they're no longer with us it's become YABS - 'yet another bloody sandwich'.

Come to think of it, in NI we did have a real supper, i.e. the 4th meal of the day after breakfast, dinner, and tea.  IIRC Norn Iron had the first mobile heart-attack unit in the UK.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper where I grew up

Same for me, though sometimes, if the main meal was lunch, dinner would become tea.

Dinner tonight is scrambled eggs (total food miles around 1) on toast, with bacon. I might chop some wild garlic leaves into my eggs.

My pan fried scallops on a celeriac mousse were great. Just need to think of something to do with the remainder of the 3 tonne celeriac.   ::-)
However, the second course, my first ever attempt at crab linguine was rather underwhelming.  Bit claggey, due mostly, I think, there being way too much crab in it.
I'd bought a whole large dressed crab from the fish van this morning along with the scallops.
Oh, and I forgot the salt and the lemon juice, so claggey and bland.

Well, Mrs B has a retired husband for cooking duties, there's bound to be evenings like this from time to time.
