Video editing software for Windows
« on: 02 May, 2017, 10:06:25 pm »
Any recommendations for something free or cheap to get me started with a bit of experimenting.   I am considering doing some stuff for youtube but don't want to go big and thus don't want to invest heavily.

Windows movie maker will get you going. For free there is Lightworks but that is a steep learning curve, or Blender. But both of those are like stepping up from a replaceable battery to managing a small thermonuclear generator.

As above, Windows Movie maker is a good place to start.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements because it has a few nice extras but you can lose hours..days..of your life using them.

Adobe PE was bundled with my Laptop quite cheaply but I'd be happy to pay RRP for it.  It's a step up from Windows MM without getting too "Pro".

Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

I am now trying OpenShot. It is free, and designed to be easy to use. It has plenty of options for adding fancy effects and titles etc.

Had a look at OpenShot now it has a Windows version.  I couldn't work out how to see the frames for loaded video tracks... (any ideas?)

I think Windows Movie Maker is no longer available - I wanted a simple video editor recently and ended up with VideoPad - and I found that that worked for me to assemble a short clip and upload to YouTube.

Bit of a learning curve, but took me no more than a couple of hours.

Think Movie Maker was still included with Windows 7. If not it's only 120kB in size so would be easy to share. I use it on Windows 10, think I copied it off an old laptop.

Windows does still have movie maker in Win 7.

They call it Windows Live Movie Maker.   It appears in the 'All Programs' menu.

IIRC in Win 10 it's part of a separate download called "Windows Live Essentials", showimg that contrary to popular belief Microsith can do irony.
