Group Permanent 'Dick Turpin's Day Out' Saturday 27th January
« on: 13 January, 2018, 08:50:15 pm »
Following a conversation with tippers_kiwi today... hatching a plan for a group permanent on Saturday 27th January: Dick Turpin's Day Out 200km, all welcome, possible staggered start: Sudbury [early] and maybe picking up others along the way. Dunmow at around 08:00 and take it from there.

Wally's for brunch, Six Bells at Walsham-le-Willows [drinks, then pies from Rolfes], McDonalds or Wetherspoons in Sudbury.

Who's interested?

I'm out, I'll be riding the KTC&C Helpers' ride that day
Never knowingly underfed on an Audax

No!
Regular distance and sensible start time (I already have my 200k for January, purely for the purpose of RRtY that I'm not doing and 11 months in to). I suspect we should take conversation of the helpers' ride over to the Anvil Winter Series thread instead of hijacking Tomsk & tippers' plans here  ;D

psyclist has made me ride the Hills and Mills (and his ECE) on the 27th.

I'm in no shape for it, so will probably fail, this would have been much more reasonable. Have fun.

If Psyclist told you to jump into the Clyde, you would.

Too easily influenced for a pensioner.

Don't give him ideas, I can't swim and he might suggest a triathlon next!

I'm just so gullible and easily led

I had lessons before my first tri, learning how to do the front crawl more properly than I could before. So it feels like the germination of an idea; one to discuss on the 27th when you’re feeling buoyant.

I’m also not available for the Dick Turpin as I have to build Carlos’ climbing fitness.

Happily I can do the group perm, the actual Templars on the day AND a wee 100km perm this Saturday.

I ended up doing the last 50 on Saturday so my 200 is bagged. I'm just treading a little carefully with a permission request but still want to do the DTDO as I haven't done one this year.

Forecast is looking milder/drier for next weekend.....  Last Saturday's Boudicca's Revenge 100km perm was the hardest ride of that length for some time...cold, wet, slow [two proper stops to warm up/change gloves] - but no headwinds!

If there's a tippers Sudbury start at silly o'clock, then 08:00 - 09:00 here for tea'n toast, Wallys for brunch, back in Dunmow mid-evening at the Angel & Harp?

Sounds good - I think I will stick with the Dunmow start, its a bit too far for me to get up to Sudbury though I can see the attraction for Colchester and beyond dwellers.

Do I need to buy a perm card through AUK or will it be cash on the day?

Chaps, really sorry to do this....Real life has got in the way of this for me and I just can't squeeze it in  >:(. Luckily I finished that 200 the other week or my RRtY would be scuppered at 10 months!

Cash on the day  I have forms [legal requirement to complete one of course] but if you brought a pre-filled-in one that would be good.

The Straggler and I are in: 08:00 start for me.

If another day would suit, we can have a re-run in February...two months to get Arrow-Fit...

I think I'm probably going to do a local 100km tomorrow (I've got a friend who is half convinced to do the KT&C next weekend, so tomorrow will be about convincing him further) I might pick up on the perm when it's a bit more sunny...

If you see the teddy bears in the conservatory, let me know where they were :) IIRC they were on the rhs as we rode the route - but could be anywhere along it in the daylight section.  Have a grand day out
