Just finished a slow 2 hour ride through some Suffolk lanes -Acton, up to Lavenham, return through Shimpling, Long Melford and then home. Lanes were generally ice and snow free apart from occasional long strips of trapped snow against high banks narrowing the width of the road to 3/4. I guess the lanes north of Cockfield may be rideable but probably not worth the risk. Have to make up extra 3.5 hours O/T this week at work from the recent wintry fiasco. :(

We should be OK for the helpers ride, just one work thing to check, so can confirm tomorrow. The plan would be to come out in the morning as the bike is legal on the train from London at that time, eta at Dunmow would be 07.45.

Didn't we go to the chip shop in East Harling on one of the helpers rides before?

Ok great, hope you can make it

Rumbles Fish Bar, E Harling - we sat outside last time! Compared to last week, it will feel very mild! Village pubs are both shut at lunchtime during the week. There's a shop, too of course. Looking at other villages there's a real lack of lunch facilities.

My Dunmow ETA will be 7:45 too on Tuesday for the helper's ride. Where are we starting from?

Near East Harling you have got the whiskey distillery which has a very popular with cyclists cafe, the cafe in Kenninghall or next to the whiskey place swallow aquatics but the whiskey one is the best out of those.

For the helper's ride tomorrow, are we meeting at the church?

For the ride on Saturday, the weather is currently looking significantly warmer than last Saturday.

I was going to aim for the usual rec parking with a view to Tomsk HQ start?

Maybe you need someone to stamp cards at the Distillery Tomsk?  ;D

You lucky helpers, not working on a Tuesday! I’ve paid my dues, and hope to be there bright and early on Saturday (and I think I have the perm to do it again another day).

Looks like I'll be on a solo, rather than a tandem, for this one.

My first 200 since last September... gulp... will be slow(er) and struggling I guess. Still with 777m of climbing I have as good a chance as any for making it round. Be kind as you pass a weak man....

See you there - by which I mean, at the beginning and from thereon, not at all.

This will be my first 300 since Richard Ellis Memorial route check (+ECE), I think, as I intend to ECE the 200.

After my struggles on The Cambridge Pork Pie route check a week ago following six weeks off the bike, and ten weeks with only a single ride, I think I'll be wibbling game-facedly along with you at the back, Al.  Happy days ;)
Lockdown lethargy. RRTY: wot's that? Can't remember if I'm on #8 or #9 ...

Following yesterday's Route Check and Helpers' Ride, the updated route sheet and information has been emailed out this morning. If I missed anyone out, please let me know.

Now to do a shopping list for tons of food...

Mild and wet by the look of it.   Head/side wind on the way back.

Could be worse.

But you will propelled by the imperative of fixed... I will be trying to freewheel uphill which, apparently, doesn't work.

If anyone is at a loose end in Dunmow tomorrow evening, some of my helpers and I will probably be in the Angel and Harp from about 21:00...

We'll be setting up St Mary's Centre from 19:00-ish.

If I’m organised, I hope to be in bed at 9pm, getting a few hours sleep before a1:30 departure.

Driving up on the day.  5am alarm for me.  First ACME event since the Flatlands.

Must be careful if the M25 speed cameras this time.

HK got round on her Moulton in decent time, despite her leg problems. I was on fixed and definitely feeling the lack of miles over the past month.

There were several folk who seemed to be floating round and others who were making a meal of it. Should be a fairly low DNF rate.

Great day out.   Only rained very briefly around lunchtime and the expected headwind home wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.   Spent most of the day on my own, but it worked OK with pacing.

Good to see the ACME crew again and to briefly shout at HK and LWaB.
