Happy Birthday YACF
« on: 25 March, 2018, 07:25:57 pm »
As Helly mentioned elsewhere, 10 years since the 'lifeboat' was launched.

A hell of a lot has happened in that time. Think I can safely say it was a life changing event for me.

ETA. Was I really the 28th person to register? Or have lots of people left the forum...?

I wanted 300 members.  Oops!  The forum was hosted at my ISP to start with (free) but they soon got fed up of the traffic.

Celebrations. Bikes, beer, cake, conversation, fish'n'chips, drunkenness (optional), midnight bacon sandwiches (there's no kebab shop!), leccy bikes, trikes, weird tandems, etc. (subject to confirmation)

Here 11th-13th May 2018.

Seeing but as what I, having joined in 2012, am member n° 4769, I am not surprised.  Most fun I've had on the web since whenever.

Thank'ee, zur.

I seem to have joined on 12th April 08 - a bit of a late starter, but I do have a vague recollection off thinking - "where has everyone gone?" . I think it might have been Helly that pointed me in the ways of righteousness!

Appears I hung around thinking the same until 30 April. At that point, it must have hit me that you'd gone as well ;) I don't seem to have posted for another two days after that.

... I have no idea how to find out what number member I am.

One method is to go to Members > Search for members. Search for and then hover above your username; the u number is where you stand in the list. Rogerzilla is no. 1 and you are no. 200, PB.

Another is to hover above anyone's username where they have posted.

Edit: I see that Joth has managed to arrange the list of members in the order we signed up - here - so you can just hover above a username there if that list interests you.

I don't see those stats, I know I'm number umpteen million though

I was watching the old place implode from USA (visiting my parents). Consequently it took me a few days to jump ship (I was also hoping the old place wouldn't go down the pan quite as it did).

I registered here on the 31st.

No. 16. 27th March 2008, 11.29pm.

TimO is number 2 and registered 17 minutes ahead of me.

Edit: it seems I was the 25th to register but and 16th in terms of surviving members. Given that Rogerzilla is no 1 and TimO is actually number 5, did RZ set up some dummy users in positions 2, 3, & 4?

No 1773, registered summer 2009.  That probably means I'm not a proper YACFer, or something.

Hmmm.  How does one quantify what constitutes being a YACFer?

Blimey, 10 years, how time flies.  My official anniversary is tomorrow at 0814hrs, looks like I was member number 90.

Without wanting to get too soppy or deep I think it is fair to say that yacf, and acf before it, has had a tremendously positive influence on my life.  Just about all the friends I spend time with on a regular basis have been met through acf / yacf or something directly related and for that I am very grateful  :-*

187. Seem to recall I first got into cycling forums on CyclingPlus, then that went rapidly downhill, then ACF, and YACF.

Still have an id on cyclechat but rarely visit, occasionally the CTC forum, but YACF is my main addiction  :)

It's the sheer variety of shared experiences that keeps me here.
