Indeed. Their recommended alternative for Firefox seems to need a user name (can't use email address), a password, your email address, and a memorable bloody phrase during set-up.

I've been using Mozilla Sync so that I can see my browser tabs on my phone when I'm away from my computer (or just lying in bed and feeling too lazy to get up *cough*).  I've already forgotten my memorable phrase but actually, that's because once you've set it up, it doesn't ask for it again.

This is a final reminder that on May 1, 2018, we will be shutting down Xmarks. Your account will remain active until then. After this date, your bookmarks should remain available in any previously accessed browser, but they will no longer sync and your Xmarks account will be deactivated. There will be no impact to your LastPass Premium account. In addition, any remaining balance previously paid towards Xmarks will be applied as a credit towards your LastPass Premium account.

Any recommendations for a replacement bookmark manager?

I've gone to KeePass, with the data file held on dropbox, not sure I like the concept of KeePass or the like, as they are prime targets for the black hats.

KeePass is open source and you can get clients for all platforms.
