Non-oiks shouting stuff at cyclists

bobb's suggestion reminded me of the last FNRttC from Manchester.

Riding alongside Kim I heard from a member of one of the many small groups of Jewish men walking home an appreciation of her steed. 'Sweet!'
A world of bedlam trapped inside a small cyclist.

From the open window of a small yellow car last Thursday evening. Young woman leans out as I go past and

"Oh wow, that is the most amazing thing I have EVER seen" (Streetmachine)

I give a wave, and she drives off with a whoop.

Fair made my night.

Do we have a definition of "non-oik"? Does it include policemen? (Or cabinet ministers ... )

If that had been the reason, my day would probably have been made even more. The tone was definitely appreciative, rather than derisory.

Out for a Saturday afternoon ride and got wolf-whistled at by a pretty girl as their car passed. Probably taking the mick, but you take what you can get, right?!    ;D

I've had "nice arse!" from young women in cars more than once  :)

the best I've managed recently was a young lady giving me a very sorry look as I was doing my best impression of a drowned rat,
although I do agree that a wolf whistle does boost the confidence :)

Riding round Traf Square with Bomber and Kitzy, years ago, a call from a man in a taxi: "Nice ass" in a USAnian accent.

"Thank you!" cries Kitzy.

"Not you, sweety---him!"

I've had this a couple of times. Once I even had the wits to reply "Wrong! Nice legs- quality arse!"

She laughed ;D

Two horsey-type teenage girls walking along a lane as we passed on the tandem.

"Wow! What an awesome bike. We need one of those."

Non-oik small girl said more than shouted, but this was the most appropriate thready I could find... "Look, I'm riding my bicycle too".

Small children often seem excited to see adult cyclists. I've seen quite a few waving/cheering at me from car windows and one saying very excitedly "look Mum, that man's riding a bike!" as I pulled up to a lunch stop.

I have a bell on my recumbent.  Its primary purpose is to protect the shifter from damage should the bike fall on its side, but it mostly gets used to cheerfully ring at gawping small children.

Young lad (8 or 9) stopped at the top of a hill yesterday whilst red-faced parents zig-zagged up the hill behind him. "I have to wait because it's too steep for them" he said to me as I passed - never has a sentence been spoken with such pride by a young lad!

Kids and dogs* think recumbents are amazingly cool.

Riding on mixed-use path yesterday and noticed 3 children (maybe 9, 7, 6 years old) running back and forth across it, oblivious to traffic potential.  Oldest, a girl, had just run across and with a mighty leap jumped over one of the decorative / protective wood timber stubs that line the route on one side (about 2-2 1/2 ft tall).  I slowed and dinged my bell a couple of times.  Her younger brothers looked up and stayed clear.  As I passed, she called out "I like your moustache"

Riding home this evening, I was in the right hand lane queuing to get to a mini roundabout and trying to identify the P2W in front of me. A driver pulled up on my left, wound down his window and, making a fist with his right hand and raising it shouted something, but in a weirdly non-aggressive, smiling way. I smiled and nodded and rode on.

Down the road I gradually processed it, and realised he'd shouted "Cymru am byth". It took another few seconds to realise I was wearing one of my Audax Cymru tops.

I got shouted at something inaudible from an overbridge... while I was cycling on the A282, just before I hopped across some armco before I ran out of hard shoulder. They probably thought it was the M25! As it was I was just curious, confirming that there were no cycles prohibited signs from the A2 at Darenth.
