Haven't read that one, although I have copies of perdido street station, the scar and I've read another whose name escapes me (mostly centring around rebels on a train).

Brilliant book. I wonder where they will film it. Needs so be central Europe somewhere.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Interesting. I've got the book on my to-read pile, so I really should have a go at it before it comes to the telly.

It's made it to Radio4, if not TV!

well ok; the book has made it to Bookclub, on now (no doubt on iPlayer later).

I failed to finish Perdito'

Listening to China, this book sounds intriguing. He's very likeable, and the discussion is intriguing too. But I dont understand a word of it! I almost want to read the bloody thing so that this discussion makes more sense.

Lots of chat about "universes", allegory vs metaphor, Star Wars,  books that "cheat'. Oh and detective fiction (a bit).

A mattc recommendation. :P

I heard Book Club by chance yesterday afternoon. It was definitely an advantage having read the book. I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything he said, which is reassuring - it makes me think I 'got' the book in the way he intended. I definitely read it as a Chandleresque detective novel first and foremost, the 'fantasy' stuff being a secondary element.

I particularly liked what he said about wanting to subtitle the book 'The last Inspector Borlu mystery' or whatever it was - makes perfect sense to me, and I'm glad he's not planning to revisit the setting. I hope he has that written into his contract with the TV people - if the adaptation is at all successful, they'll be desperate to make a second series.

This seems to be taking a while to come to fruition.   I may even get around to re-reading it before it's released.

True, but having Morrissey on board is great news - he's perfect for the part.

I may get round to reading some other Miéville books by then!

Everything gets filmed in Liverpool!  I see them most weeks near my office, lots of old Victorian architecture.

I've recently read the city and the city. I remember enjoying it. I can't remember much else about it.
Strange, as I've also read Perdito Street station, The Scar, Iron Council, King Rat, Railsea and I can remember all of those very well.

Might have a read of that in preparation.

I've read Perdido Street Station and Kraken so far, both very entertaining

I think that's just the way it is. Its quite a dreamlike book and like dreams the details fade with the light.

Filming in Liverpool.   I've walked past that a few times as I work near to there.

Well I enjoyed the first three episodes (downloaded on iPlayer after the series finished) but forgot or ran out of time on the fourth. Any have a copy lurking somewhere?
