Getting there...

I am not enjoying this thread.

I started serious photography back in the seventies, and I got me a yashica TL Electro-X, and I got myself the 1.2 lens, a perfect setup for available light (heavy camera, vertical metal shutter, that lens). I used to hang around with bands at the Grope & Wanker and did some publicity stuff for one or two startups. At the time the Hope & Anchor was often used by big bands for warm up gigs before large events the next day. So, being in the know I managed to be there and shoot stuff like the Stones (I remember them billed as The Sheikhs of R&B - always wondered if that led to the Sultans of Swing), the Man Band, Sam Apple Pie (anyone else remember Dave Samson's rendition of "I like to Masturbate"?), Feelgood, Lou Reed, Fleetwood Mac (or some incarnation), The 'oo.

However, I kept everything in a little darkroom not that far away, that I used to use. And one day, it was all cleared out. Completely. I don't suppose those negs got kept, even.

Nothing particular about these, a pub jam, apart from ISO 2500, f1.8 1/30 or less.

Really pleased with the last one (Fleet Foxes blerk) -- I was friggin miles away from the stage. And the second is #2 son at a gig. Does this count?

I managed to rescue one more from my spell in the press pit at the Loch Lomond Rock Festival 1979. Sadly most have succumbed to the flood.

Glastonbury, late 80s. Can't remember the exact year (well, I was there). Nikon FM, probably 135mm lens, probably Fuji 400.

These were taken at a seafront 'Battle of the Bands' competition a couple of years ago. I used a Nikon F80 with no flash, using a 300mm zoom from the back of the crowd, rating Ilford HP5+ at 3200. They were enlarged onto Ilford Multigrade at Grade 5 for maximum contrast.

Jocelyn Brown.

Apparently.

Wish I'd taken my 300 f2.8, but I wasn't actually there to take photos of the gig. Interestingly I was the only photographer there.
