[HAMR] Jan 3rd

A 5am start for Steve today.

Weather's pretty miserable out there (I know - I'm shortly to set off for a Blacksheep 200) and is likely to be wet and breezy for most of the day and then getting pretty chilly, pretty quickly after dark.
You're only as successful as your last 1200...

Yup (and I hope he doesn't read this, but ... ) this weekend looks like a return to 'proper' crappy british winter weather. Pissing wet for a day, then around zero for the next. I was really pleased for him when Day 1 turned out pretty nice - I think we all enjoyed it :)

This is where he earns it, and reminds us all why it's not us out there!

Several of us enjoyed riding 200 mile days with Steve during Mille Miglia 2010. Days like today are when the determination and class of a rider shows through. I'm staying tucked up in bed!
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Steve's ride is truly inspiring and I wish him all the best but sad to say my personal determination took a hit today when I got up late, looked out the window and said 'sod it'  :face palm:

Just noticed that his Strava following has quadrupled in the last 24hrs

Not only is Steve going to get the most follows on Strava, he's also going to win all the Rapha challenges this year.
A place in a reality TV show awaits him on 2016.

Well, he couldn't be much worse than Vicky P was on Sleb Cum Dancing.
Oh hang on. He probably could.

No.  I don't watch it.  But Mrs. B does.  Avidly.  I am aware of it.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

No idea what you're talking about. Should I google the above?

Crikey, I've just surfaced and he's already into Norfolk!

Just looking at that track map, you realize how ideal MK is as a base for him to branch out and attack different regions as he so wishes.

No he's not. He's in Cambridgeshire (March/Wisbech). Should be in Norfolk in about 20 minutes. :P

This morning he rode right past my cousin's house (tenuous claim to fame).

Yes, of course, I should know better, especially as Wisbech is my birth town! And West Walton the first family home, TG is right there now. Got going on two wheels there too, can still remember that clear as daylight. Good place to ride a bike, save today! Clearing up later for him though.

I did intend to ride down and then do the poor student from Northants today, apathy and still lingering bugs (and a rare case of common sense) stopped that.
As a penance I'll keep an eye on his return route, if he retraces back the same way it would be fun to try and find him.
Now what can I carry tea in   ::-)

With that spelling, probably not.
Although you'd probably be better off not googling the correct spelling either.

He's not moved in quite a while.  I hope this is a planned stop.  Or a tracking glitch, or something.

I do remember him telling me once that his favourite cafe was in Holbeach. Perhaps he is eating a lot.

Satellite view zooms into Lodge Farm Cafe. They won't be open this afternoon but on the other hand if they stock take it'll be over quickly!  ;D

Perhaps he has broken in, eaten a whole load of stuff, and is now too wide to get out the hole he made.

Yep, retracing his steps. Short day today, perhaps? The weather's crap. He might find it easier to do a few more miles tomorrow provided the roads aren't icy.

Indeed. Utterly bonkers - in the loveliest way possible (flatulence excepted)!

For some reason my family are getting fed up with me saying "heh, guess where Steve The Cyclist is now and how far he's done?"

I remind them they've only got another 362 days of updates to go.

I've been trying to contact my cousin in Emberton to get her to go out and cheer him on. He seems to be going back the same way so he should be there at about 7pm, judging by his track. She's not answering her phone though.

Mind you, she's pretty close to Milton Keynes so will probably get quite a few opportunities over the next few months.

He has diverted towards Wellingborough. He clearly thinks he needs a few more miles today.
