[HAMR] IronOx
« on: 04 January, 2015, 03:24:07 pm »
Steve Tweeted "Good luck to William Ironox starting his #HAMR ride today".

You can checking IronOx's progress here - http://trackleaders.com/oneyeartimetrial15i.php?name=William_IronOx_Pruett

If I can interpret the numbers correctly he's covered 34 miles in 5 hours which seems a little on the modest side so far.

He's probably lost - when I was in that area in 2012 it wasn't finished.

Seems it's warmer in Milton Keynes than in Fort Worth :o

It is Texas, maybe he's had to go to church. We could get a Chariots of Fire vibe going.

IronOx only has 13 miles on the tracker - I'm sure it was higher this morning - he's been farting around testing the system for a couple of days - has it been reset?

Tarzan has got 38 ish miles on his tracker, but no visible track.  ???
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is...

Modest mileage at the start wouldn't be surprising if he was doing publicity stuff, but it sounds like there's tracker shenanigans going on.

There are a few updates on his Faceache page. i think he plkanned to start today (4th) ?

But there wasn't much of intesret there,  and I couldn't persuade FB to let me Follow or Like the page,  so I've given up. Steve's publicity currently leads the field comfortably!

There is also https://twitter.com/cycle_dr1 who doesn't seem to have a Spot tracker but has currently done 1242km (772miles) in the first four days of the year. In Adelaide, so his main problem has been the heat!
So can we assume he's just Strava-bashing, and hasn't officially started a UMCA record attempt?

He mentions "300km-a-day for a month". So perhaps he just wants that? And as a bonus he might finish the month ahead of Steve (and then put his feet up with a cold stubby. Or three!)

I've been Facebook stalking him for a while and I'm now a "friend" on his facebook page.  [ https://www.facebook.com/williamironox?ref=ts&fref=ts ]

He states that he will be putting all updates on the CorioVelo page  [ https://www.facebook.com/pages/CorioVelo/321348801765?pnref=story ] but there's little or nothing on there.

Didn't he ride the most amount of miles in a week last year?  I presume he's doing something similar, but for the month rather than a week.

Just seems to enjoy riding his bike, I guess he doesn't have a job. Looking on Strava http://app.strava.com/athletes/389932, his last four weeks have been 39h, 39h, 42h, 53h!

According to his twitter profile he runs a mobile bike shop:
"""
Cycledoctor mobile service centre based in South West London

cycledr.com
"""

But looks like his web domain expired while he was out riding... http://cycledr.com is currently a holding page!

His twitter feed used to be mostly about the workshop (https://twitter.com/cycle_dr1/status/353099080970424320 https://twitter.com/cycle_dr1/status/432956172170461184 etc) but not so much since the 7 day record attempt in June.

If Ironox doesn't get started soon won't he be getting a little rusty?

The UMCA year long competition is something you can pay 300 dollars for and sign up to. It's not a lot different to the AUK points competition in that sense.
It can provide validation for a record attempt, but for an athletics coach such as Pruett, it provides some cost-effective publicity.
His clients will be wanting advice on how to combine a job with athletic ambitions, and the tracking provides a one-stop shop to see what their coach is up to.
The UMCA is a club like any other. In the UMCA results for the Mersey Roads 24 this year, Chris Hopkinson is recorded in the rankings, but the rider who pipped him to first place isn't, because he's not a UMCA member.

He's been bashing out the miles for ages and was at the top of the Strava ratings for pretty much all of last year.

IronOx has updated his blog with the  following:

Dated 4th Jan, but added at 1am today

Its called the HAM'R,, Highest Annual Mileage Record,  Basically ride as many miles as you can in 2015.  On your Bicycle of course.  I am calling it" Project Table Scraps",  Scrap together as many miles as possible and always make the others think, where is the Ironox.  Start date for my HAM'R adventure is 4th January 2015.  "Every day your friends call them TABLE SCRAPS, the morsels of riding you put together at LUNCH, Early morning rides" (SRAM22)...

And

Dated 9th Jan, but added 6.35am today.

Thank you to De Soto Triathlon Company coming through with one of the best cycling shorts, I have ever used" the 400 mile cycling short".  Its called the 400 mile cycling short for a reason.
Shout out to Frog Fuel performance for providing Frog Fuel to each ride on the HAM'r journey.
Rush Olson and his crew at Rush Olson Creative Sports Production and No Boundaries Media.
Once the weather gets better we will start to get longer rides and more miles.  IT is cold. Shout out to my logistics person Stacey Wardrup, statistician.

Er... "Table scraps" ???
