Looks like Steve is heading back south today. 29 miles up on the tracker so far.

Progress from Steve looks very slow today (around 90km in 8 hours) after a relatively short couple of days for the M24TT. Is everything OK? Can anyone from Team Teethgrinder update us? Is he perhaps just tapering before an 1st Aug restart or are there other problems?

I was wondering the same Jo.  The moving speeds have been very low each time I've looked at the tracker the past couple of days - often around 10mph for recent segments.

N ow at 79 miles in nearly 12 hours. He did say at the weekend that his legs were tired. They must be very tired after the 24hr.

……what was the point of the 24? was it PBP related?

Not PBP related, at least in terms of qualification. Steve is a regular at the Mersey 24 so perhaps just some variety to structure the year, especially after so many Fenland trips.

I believe that TG has a weather eye on McNasty's record number of 24hr TT finishes (currently somewhere in the mid-50 finishes). I don't know of anybody else who might get close.

I calculated Steve's average speed on the 24, and it was 15.78 kph, so just above the minimum for Audax points, he'll get 4. I know he had at least two hours sleep.
The rate of climbing on the Mersey 24 is less than on PBP.

TG in announcing his relaunch for 1st August...

"I'm not going as well as I hoped yet. I want to be doing 250 miles per day now. However, I have had days where I have averaged 18mph, so I know that I can go faster than I do on a lot of my rides (where I seem to average 16mph). Last week I decided to not use an alarm clock and just get up when I wake up naturally, so that I get as much sleep as I need. It has done some good, but the speed still isn't there, so now I am trying to ride gently to get some recovery into my legs.

We will know within a week whether it is working. I think it will take a good few days because I expect that I need a lot of recovery and that isn't easy when trying to ride over 200 miles per day. Currently, riding over 200 miles feels a lot harder than it ought to be. With a bit of recovery, it should get easier and I should get faster. Once I get faster, I will use that to gain more rest time before I bump up the miles so that I am as well recovered as I can be - which should make me faster."

So that explains the slower speeds.

Has he actually said 1st August? I'd taken announcements as being "sometime in August" rather than the 1st but may have misread things.

Contemporaneous efforts are allowed - so current 2015 effort is still active

15.78 * 24 = 378 km, which is 3 points, surely?

I thought he'd been credited with more distance than that.
